Delhi Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta inaugurated a two-lane slip road bridge connecting Ghazipur in East Delhi with the Hindon Canal on Thursday. The bridge is intended to improve road connectivity for residents of Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and surrounding areas, while easing traffic pressure and reducing commuting time. Delhi Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said the project had remained incomplete for six years because of pending issues, including payment to the contractor, before the BJP government cleared the matters and completed the work. Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra said the bridge over a large drain would improve connectivity for residents of Trilokpuri, Kondli and Patparganj assembly constituencies. The government also said the Barapulla flyover, under construction for 10 years, had been completed and would be inaugurated soon.
Delhi Chief Minister Smt Rekha Gupta inaugurated a two-lane slip road bridge from Ghazipur to the Hindon Canal in East Delhi on Thursday, providing a new road link intended to ease traffic movement and improve connectivity for residents of Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and neighbouring areas.
Gupta inaugurated the bridge in the presence of Delhi BJP president and Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra and Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh. The project involves a bridge over a large drain in the Kondli area and is expected to facilitate movement for commuters travelling between several parts of East Delhi.
Gupta said the new connectivity would make daily commuting easier for lakhs of people in Kondli, Kalyanpuri, Ghazipur and surrounding areas. She said the bridge would also help reduce traffic pressure and save travel time. The chief minister added that improving roads and connectivity was part of the government's efforts to make the benefits of infrastructure development more visible in residents' daily lives.
The project had remained incomplete for six years, according to PWD minister Parvesh Sahib Singh. He said Kondli and nearby areas had been experiencing traffic congestion during this period because the work had not been completed. After the BJP government came to power, pending issues relating to the project were addressed, including the payment due to the contractor, allowing the work to be completed.
The newly inaugurated bridge is expected to improve connectivity for residents travelling through the Trilokpuri, Kondli and Patparganj assembly constituencies. Malhotra, who also represents East Delhi in the Lok Sabha, said the bridge would provide smoother commuting for thousands of citizens in these areas.
The infrastructure forms part of a wider set of road projects being taken up or completed in the capital. Singh said the Barapulla flyover, which had remained under construction for the past 10 years, had also been completed and would be inaugurated shortly.
The Barapulla project has been one of the longer-running road infrastructure works in Delhi, with construction extending over a decade. Its completion is expected to add to the city's road network once it is formally opened.
The Ghazipur-Hindon Canal bridge, meanwhile, addresses connectivity requirements within East Delhi by creating a direct road link over the large drain in Kondli. Its opening provides an alternative route for local traffic and is intended to reduce pressure on existing roads serving the surrounding residential areas.
The project had faced delays before the pending contractual and administrative issues were resolved. With the bridge now operational, the focus is on using the new connection to improve traffic movement between Ghazipur, Kondli and adjoining areas.
The inauguration also comes as the Delhi government highlights the completion of projects that had remained stalled for several years. Malhotra said infrastructure works that had been delayed were now progressing, while the PWD has identified the Barapulla flyover as another major project nearing public opening.
