The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has directed officials to expedite pending road works around the Kharadi-Keshavnagar bridge and make the facility available to traffic by August 15. The bridge is expected to improve connectivity between Kharadi and Keshavnagar and provide an additional crossing for traffic in the rapidly developing eastern part of Pune. PMC officials have reviewed the remaining works and instructed agencies to complete them within the stipulated timeframe. The planned opening is aimed at easing traffic movement and improving connectivity for residents and commuters using the corridor.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has directed officials to accelerate pending road works and complete preparations for opening the Kharadi-Keshavnagar bridge to traffic by August 15. PMC chief has instructed the concerned teams to prioritise the remaining work so that the bridge can be made operational within the targeted deadline.
The bridge is an important connectivity link between Kharadi and Keshavnagar, two rapidly developing areas in eastern Pune. Its opening is expected to provide an additional route for motorists and improve movement between the two neighbourhoods.
PMC officials have been asked to expedite road-related works connected with the bridge. The remaining activities include completing the approaches and associated road infrastructure required to enable safe and uninterrupted movement once the structure is opened.
The project is expected to be particularly significant for commuters travelling between Kharadi and Keshavnagar, where increasing residential and commercial development has contributed to rising traffic volumes. An additional bridge connection could help distribute traffic across the local road network.
The civic body's latest direction comes with a specific target of opening the bridge by Independence Day. Officials have been asked to coordinate the remaining activities and avoid delays that could push back the planned opening.
The bridge is also expected to improve access to surrounding residential areas and employment centres. Kharadi has emerged as an important commercial and employment hub in Pune, while Keshavnagar has experienced considerable residential development, increasing the need for stronger road connectivity between the two areas.
Traffic movement in eastern Pune has faced pressure from growing development and increasing vehicle volumes. Additional road links can help reduce dependence on existing corridors, although the extent of the bridge's impact will depend on the completion of its connecting roads and integration with the surrounding network.
PMC's focus is now on completing the outstanding works before the proposed August 15 opening. The condition of the approach roads and other associated infrastructure will be important for ensuring that the bridge can handle traffic safely once it becomes operational.
If the targeted deadline is met, the Kharadi-Keshavnagar bridge will add another connectivity link to Pune's eastern road network and is expected to provide commuters with an alternative route between the two areas.
