The Uttar Pradesh government has approved 73,184 new houses across 137 urban local bodies under the beneficiary-led individual house construction component of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0. The latest approval takes the total number of houses sanctioned under this component in the state to 4,88,526. The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee chaired by Chief Secretary S P Goyal. Officials have been directed to ensure that the sanctioned projects meet prescribed construction standards and are completed within the stipulated timelines. The state government has also stressed regular monitoring to prevent delays in delivering housing facilities to eligible beneficiaries.
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the construction of 73,184 houses across 137 urban local bodies under the beneficiary-led individual house construction (BLC) component of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), officials said earlier this week.
The approval was granted at a meeting of the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (SLSMC), constituted under PMAY-U 2.0 and chaired by Chief Secretary S P Goyal. With the latest sanction, the total number of houses approved in Uttar Pradesh under the BLC component has reached 4,88,526.
Under the BLC component, eligible beneficiaries can receive support for constructing or enhancing homes on their own land. The latest approval adds to the state's ongoing efforts to expand housing delivery under the second phase of the urban housing mission. Nationally, PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 have crossed 1.25 crore sanctioned houses, with more than one crore homes completed and delivered, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Goyal directed officials to ensure that the newly sanctioned housing projects are completed within the stipulated timeframe while adhering to prescribed construction standards. He also stressed the need to maintain construction quality and ensure timely delivery of housing facilities to beneficiaries.
Officials have been instructed to continuously review the progress of the sanctioned projects and take steps to prevent unnecessary delays in implementation. Principal Secretary (Urban Development) P Gurupasad and other senior officials attended the SLSMC meeting.
The latest approvals reinforce Uttar Pradesh's role in the implementation of PMAY-U 2.0, with the focus extending beyond sanctioning houses to timely execution and delivery. The central scheme operates through multiple components aimed at supporting affordable urban housing, including beneficiary-led construction, affordable housing in partnership, affordable rental housing and interest-linked assistance.
