The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) is undertaking extensive greenery and landscaping work along the Seed Access Road, one of the main roads connecting the capital region. The work is being carried out ahead of the road’s formal inauguration by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on August 13. Officials from the greenery department are planting 26 varieties of trees and ornamental plants along different sections of the road. Golden Neem and Plumeria Rubra, brought specially from nurseries, will form the main attraction. Landscaping is also being carried out around the Buckingham Canal, while preserved trees at Anantavaram are being given a more landscaped setting.
The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) is carrying out greenery and beautification work along the Seed Access Road, a key road in the capital Amaravati. The landscaping is being completed ahead of its formal inauguration by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on August 13.
Following the directions of ADC Chairperson and Managing Director D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy, officials from the corporation’s greenery department are planting different varieties of trees and ornamental plants along the road. The work covers the stretch from near the steel bridge at Undavalli to the major steel bridge being constructed across the Guntur Channel and Kondaveeti Vagu.
Golden Neem and Plumeria Rubra, which have been specially brought from nurseries, are among the main attractions being added to the central portion of the road. Along with these, 21 other varieties of plants are being planted in the rotary sections on both sides of the Buckingham Canal at Undavalli.
The plants being used include Sterculia alata, Spider Lily, Zephyranthus, Lily, Syngonium, Black Fountain Grass, Leucophyllum, Song of India, Crossandra, Russelia Red, Ferns, Tecoma Capensis New Pink, Alpinia and Tecoma Capensis Orange.
Other varieties being planted in the rotary sections include Calathea, Bottlebrush Dwarf, China Doll, Clusia Rosea, Jatropha Red, Heliconia Red, Ylang Ylang, Florida Fiddlewood and Black Locust. The landscaping work also includes laying green grass along both sides of the canal and planting trees and ornamental plants at intervals.
The Seed Access Road is an important part of Amaravati’s road network. The road has been planned as a major connection between Amaravati and Vijayawada and ultimately links with the wider road network around the capital region. The Seed Access Road is also part of the capital’s larger infrastructure development programme.
Greenery development along the road is not a new component of the project. Earlier phases of the Seed Access Road had also included efforts to develop greenery along the corridor. A central nursery was also initiated by the ADC this year at the N-10 Seed Access Road junction to support plantation along major roads in Amaravati. The nursery is planned to raise around 45,000 saplings and is intended to supply planting material for the capital’s arterial roads.
The current landscaping work is also being extended to trees that have been preserved through the ADC’s tree translocation efforts at Anantavaram. Large cranes are being used to arrange and maintain the transplanted trees, with additional greenery planned around the area.
The landscaping is intended to give the Seed Access Road a more developed green cover as infrastructure work progresses across Amaravati. The road is also seeing construction of steel bridges across the Buckingham Canal and Kondaveeti Vagu, with the latter forming part of the connectivity improvements along the corridor.
