Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured a contract worth INR 524.17 crore from NHPC Ltd for civil and hydro-mechanical works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu and Kashmir. The 27-month project covers the works needed to make the undersluices of the concrete dam fully functional and operational, along with related ancillary and enabling works. The rehabilitation is expected to improve the dam’s operational efficiency and sediment management while supporting its long-term safety and reliability. Salal Power Station remains one of NHPC’s important hydroelectric assets in the region.
Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured an INR 524.17 crore contract from NHPC Ltd for carrying out civil and hydro-mechanical works at the Salal Power Station in Jammu and Kashmir.
The project includes the civil and hydro-mechanical works required to make the undersluices of the concrete dam at the power station fully functional and operational. It will also cover associated ancillary and enabling works needed for the rehabilitation and completion of the facility.
The contract has a completion period of 27 months. The work is focused on restoring the functioning of the dam’s undersluices, which are important for managing water and sediment conditions at the reservoir.
According to HCC, the rehabilitation is expected to improve the operational efficiency of the dam and strengthen sediment management. The work is also expected to support the long-term safety and reliability of the structure.
NHPC’s tender records show that the work is part of a wider effort around the Salal reservoir and dam infrastructure. The company has also floated a tender for construction of a new diversion-cum-sediment bypass tunnel for restoration of the concrete dam construction sluices and sediment management of the Salal reservoir.
The Salal Power Station is one of NHPC’s key hydroelectric assets. The project is located on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir and forms part of the region’s hydropower infrastructure.
The contract adds to HCC’s ongoing involvement in infrastructure and hydroelectric construction projects. HCC’s own announcement also lists the Salal contract among its recent project wins, alongside a separate INR 127 crore Bhutan hydro project secured earlier this year.
For NHPC, the rehabilitation work is aimed at maintaining the operational condition of the Salal dam and improving its ability to manage sediment and related hydraulic conditions. The project is therefore focused not only on construction but also on the continued functioning and reliability of an existing hydropower asset.
