The Manipur government has announced the reopening of National Highway-2 and National Highway-37 for free movement of people and goods across communities, marking a significant step towards restoring road connectivity in the state. The two highways connect Imphal with Dimapur and Jiribam, respectively, and have faced prolonged disruption amid the conflict in Manipur. The state government has also announced plans to resume bus services between Imphal and Dimapur. The reopening is expected to improve access to essential supplies, facilitate travel and support the gradual restoration of economic activity.
The Manipur government has announced that National Highway-2 and National Highway-37 will be reopened to allow unrestricted movement of people and goods across the state. The decision marks an important development for road connectivity in Manipur, where movement along key highway corridors has remained severely disrupted for an extended period.
NH-2 provides the principal road connection between Imphal and Dimapur in Nagaland, while NH-37 links Imphal with Jiribam and provides an important route towards Assam. Both highways are critical to the movement of passengers, commercial vehicles and essential commodities into and within Manipur.
The prolonged disruption of these routes had affected the movement of people as well as the transportation of supplies. Reopening the highways is therefore expected to improve access to essential goods and make inter-district and inter-state travel easier for residents.
The state government's announcement also includes the resumption of bus services between Imphal and Dimapur. The restoration of public transport is expected to provide an additional mobility option for passengers travelling between Manipur's capital and the neighbouring state of Nagaland.
The move is particularly significant for businesses and communities dependent on road-based supply chains. NH-2 and NH-37 serve as important transport arteries for the movement of food, fuel, medicines and other essential commodities, making their continued accessibility important for the state's economy and daily life.

For the transport sector, restoring regular movement on the two highways could gradually improve logistics operations after years of uncertainty.
