The project covers 323.44 sq km in Maharashtra’s Raigad district and is planned as a new urban development within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The appointment marks the beginning of the detailed planning process, with the Singapore firm expected to bring international urban planning expertise to the proposed township and help establish a long-term framework for its development.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has brought in Singapore-based Surbana Jurong Infrastructure Pte. Ltd. to prepare the planning framework for Mumbai 3.0, a proposed new urban development spread across 323.44 sq km in Raigad district. The appointment marks the beginning of the detailed planning phase for the large-scale development.
Under the engagement, Surbana Jurong will work on the Vision Document, Master Plan and planning framework for Mumbai 3.0. The assignment is intended to establish the broad development direction for the proposed township and provide a structured framework for planning the area over the longer term.
The project forms part of the wider effort to plan new urban growth within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With the development area located in Raigad, Mumbai 3.0 is expected to become an important component of the region’s future expansion and urban planning strategy.
The involvement of Surbana Jurong brings expertise from Singapore, a city-state known for large-scale urban planning and infrastructure development. The company’s role at this stage is focused on developing the planning framework that will guide subsequent decisions concerning the proposed new town.
The 323.44-sq-km area identified for Mumbai 3.0 gives the project a substantial geographical footprint. Preparing a comprehensive master plan for such an area will involve establishing the broad structure through which future development can take place.
