HCLTech has expanded its presence in Gujarat by opening a new Global Technology Centre at GIFT City, Gandhinagar. The facility has started operations with an initial workforce of 100 employees, most of them from Gujarat. During the inauguration, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi highlighted the company's initiative to create employment opportunities for professionals from the state closer to their homes. HCLTech also signed agreements with IIT Gandhinagar and Gujarat Technological University to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, focusing on artificial intelligence, financial technology research and skill development.
HCLTech has inaugurated its Global Technology Centre at GIFT City in Gandhinagar, marking another addition to the technology ecosystem being developed at India's first operational smart financial and technology hub. The centre was inaugurated by Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi during the past week.
Speaking at the event, Sanghavi said the new facility represents another step in the growth of GIFT City and Gujarat's information technology sector. He also appreciated HCLTech's 'Come Back Home' initiative, which aims to create employment opportunities for professionals from Gujarat within the state.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, many skilled professionals from Gujarat currently work in cities such as Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad, as well as overseas, in search of better career opportunities. He said HCLTech's initiative of encouraging such professionals to return to Gujarat for employment while staying closer to their families could serve as an example for other companies.
He further stated that the new centre would enable young professionals from Gujarat to build globally competitive careers in the technology sector without having to relocate outside the state, allowing them to pursue professional growth while remaining close to their families.
The Global Technology Centre has commenced operations with an initial workforce of 100 employees. According to the official release, the majority of the employees are local youth from Gujarat.
Alongside the inauguration, HCLTech signed separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar and Gujarat Technological University (GTU). The collaborations are aimed at strengthening industry-academia partnerships and preparing future-ready technology professionals in Gujarat.
Under these partnerships, the institutions and HCLTech will work together on research related to artificial intelligence for financial services, software development and skill enhancement. The collaboration will also provide students and faculty members with practical industry exposure and opportunities to contribute to global technology and digital transformation projects.
The new centre adds to GIFT City's growing presence as a destination for technology, financial services and global capability centres. In recent years, the government has been promoting GIFT City as a hub for IT, fintech and innovation-driven businesses, attracting domestic and multinational companies to establish operations and generate high-skilled employment in Gujarat.
