Mizoram has invited event management companies and entertainment industry professionals to consider the state as a destination for hosting large-scale events, as it looks to expand its event tourism sector and create new economic opportunities.
Speaking at the North East Events and Entertainment Leaders' Summit held in Guwahati over the past week, Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said the state has significant untapped potential in event tourism. He noted that improved rail and air connectivity has made Mizoram more accessible, making it easier for organisers and visitors to travel to the state.
The minister encouraged event organisers to host programmes in Mizoram, stating that the state's scenic hills, valleys, rivers and clean environment make it a suitable destination for tourism and entertainment events. According to an official statement, he assured stakeholders that the state government would extend a warm welcome and support such initiatives.
Hmar said the development of event tourism could generate substantial employment opportunities while creating wider economic benefits for local communities through increased visitor spending, hospitality demand and related services. He added that the Mizoram government is committed to developing the sector as one of its key growth drivers.
During the summit, the state presented a video showcasing Mizoram's tourism potential. The presentation highlighted the state's annual tourism calendar, key tourist attractions and various initiatives undertaken by the government to strengthen the tourism sector.
Prepared jointly by the Tourism Department and the Information and Public Relations Department, the presentation also underlined Mizoram's preparedness to host major tourism, cultural and entertainment events.
Event tourism has emerged as an important segment of the tourism industry across India, with several states increasingly promoting festivals, cultural programmes, music events and business conferences to attract visitors throughout the year. In the Northeast, governments have also been focusing on improving infrastructure, connectivity and tourism promotion to increase visitor footfall and strengthen local economies.
The two-day North East Events and Entertainment Leaders' Summit concluded over the weekend after discussions on strategies to promote event tourism across the northeastern states, according to the official statement.
