Skanska has secured a contract worth about SEK 1 billion to build a new city campus for Kristianstad University in Sweden. The project, awarded by Boulevardfastigheter AB, will provide a modern education and research facility designed to serve around 13,000 students and 550 staff members. The development also places strong emphasis on sustainability through the reuse of construction materials from the adjacent Galleria Boulevard. Construction is scheduled to begin in early August 2026, with completion targeted for June 2029, and the contract will be recorded in Skanska’s third-quarter 2026 order bookings.
Skanska has been awarded a contract worth about SEK 1 billion by Boulevardfastigheter AB to construct a new city campus for Kristianstad University in Sweden. The contract will be included in the company's order bookings for Sweden during the third quarter of 2026.
The new university campus is being planned as a flexible facility that will support modern teaching and research requirements. Located in the centre of Kristianstad, the campus is expected to strengthen the city's educational infrastructure while contributing to local economic activity through increased public movement and employment opportunities. The university currently has around 13,000 students and approximately 550 staff members who will use the new facility.
The development will comprise around 25,000 square metres of floor space, along with dedicated technical areas. Before construction, Skanska completed the dismantling of unused sections of the neighbouring Galleria Boulevard to make way for the project. The company, together with Boulevardfastigheter AB, has also implemented an extensive material recovery programme by reusing and recycling items such as doors, glass partitions, façade panels, faucets and installation components.
One of the key sustainability measures in the project involves the resale of nearly 10,000 square metres of concrete floor slabs for use in other construction projects. According to the company, this represents one of Sweden's largest concrete reuse initiatives. In addition, Kristianstad Municipality, Kristianstad University, Skanska and Boulevardfastigheter AB have entered into a local climate agreement aimed at supporting the environmental goals of the new campus.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early August 2026, while the project is expected to be completed in June 2029. The contract further strengthens Skanska's portfolio of education-related developments and follows several major infrastructure, healthcare and commercial projects secured by the company across Sweden and other international markets in recent months.
