• Panki Dham railway station in Kanpur has been redeveloped at a cost of INR 25 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) to enhance passenger amenities and modernise railway infrastructure.
• The upgraded station features a modern station building, improved waiting halls, digital passenger information systems, enhanced security, better sanitation facilities and barrier-free accessibility for passengers.
• The redevelopment aims to improve commuter convenience, accommodate rising passenger traffic and strengthen connectivity for both daily travellers and devotees visiting the nearby Panki Dham temple.
• The project is part of the Indian Railways' nationwide Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which seeks to transform over 1,300 railway stations into modern, accessible and integrated transport hubs across the country.
The Panki Dham railway station in Kanpur has undergone a comprehensive redevelopment at an investment of INR 25 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), marking another milestone in the Indian Railways' nationwide programme to modernise railway stations and improve passenger infrastructure.
The upgraded station has been transformed into a modern transport hub equipped with enhanced passenger amenities, improved accessibility and upgraded operational infrastructure. The redevelopment aims to improve the travel experience for thousands of daily commuters and pilgrims visiting the religious destination while strengthening railway connectivity in the Kanpur region.
As part of the modernisation project, the station now features a redesigned entrance, contemporary station building, spacious waiting halls, improved ticketing facilities and digital passenger information systems. Passenger circulation areas have been reorganised to reduce congestion, while upgraded lighting, better seating arrangements and improved sanitation facilities have been introduced to provide a more comfortable travel environment.
The redevelopment also includes significant improvements in accessibility. Ramps, tactile pathways and other passenger-friendly infrastructure have been incorporated to facilitate easier movement for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and passengers carrying luggage. Enhanced security arrangements, including CCTV surveillance and better station monitoring systems, have also been installed to strengthen passenger safety.
Officials said the station's architectural design has been upgraded while preserving its local identity, in line with the objectives of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project also includes improved landscaping, wider circulation areas and better integration of station infrastructure with surrounding transport networks to facilitate seamless passenger movement.
Panki Dham serves as an important railway station in the Kanpur region, catering to both local commuters and devotees visiting the nearby religious site. The upgraded facilities are expected to accommodate increasing passenger volumes while improving operational efficiency and reducing congestion during peak travel periods.
The redevelopment forms part of the Indian Railways' larger strategy to transform stations into modern multimodal transport centres. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, more than 1,300 railway stations across the country are being upgraded through phased investments focusing on passenger convenience, accessibility, sustainability and improved urban integration.
The scheme emphasises long-term infrastructure development by introducing modern station buildings, improved platforms, enhanced circulation areas, digital information systems and environmentally sustainable design elements. Railway authorities believe these improvements will significantly enhance passenger satisfaction while supporting future growth in rail travel.
Infrastructure experts note that station redevelopment has become a key component of India's railway modernisation programme as passenger expectations continue to evolve. Better-designed stations not only improve commuter experience but also contribute to urban renewal by creating integrated transport nodes that support commercial activity and regional development.
With the completion of the INR 25 crore redevelopment project, Panki Dham joins the growing list of railway stations upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The modernised station is expected to provide safer, more accessible and efficient travel facilities while supporting Indian Railways' broader objective of delivering world-class passenger infrastructure across the country.
