The Panki Dham railway station in Kanpur has undergone a comprehensive redevelopment at an investment of INR 25 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), marking another milestone in the Indian Railways' nationwide programme to modernise railway stations and improve passenger infrastructure.
The upgraded station has been transformed into a modern transport hub equipped with enhanced passenger amenities, improved accessibility and upgraded operational infrastructure. The redevelopment aims to improve the travel experience for thousands of daily commuters and pilgrims visiting the religious destination while strengthening railway connectivity in the Kanpur region.
As part of the modernisation project, the station now features a redesigned entrance, contemporary station building, spacious waiting halls, improved ticketing facilities and digital passenger information systems. Passenger circulation areas have been reorganised to reduce congestion, while upgraded lighting, better seating arrangements and improved sanitation facilities have been introduced to provide a more comfortable travel environment.
The redevelopment also includes significant improvements in accessibility. Ramps, tactile pathways and other passenger-friendly infrastructure have been incorporated to facilitate easier movement for senior citizens, persons with disabilities and passengers carrying luggage. Enhanced security arrangements, including CCTV surveillance and better station monitoring systems, have also been installed to strengthen passenger safety.
Officials said the station's architectural design has been upgraded while preserving its local identity, in line with the objectives of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The project also includes improved landscaping, wider circulation areas and better integration of station infrastructure with surrounding transport networks to facilitate seamless passenger movement.
Panki Dham serves as an important railway station in the Kanpur region, catering to both local commuters and devotees visiting the nearby religious site.
