Synopsis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate four redeveloped railway stations in Punjab under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on 17 July. According to Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the upgraded Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station in person and virtually dedicate the redeveloped stations at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Sri Muktsar Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib. The station redevelopment programme has introduced upgraded passenger facilities, improved accessibility, modern concourses and enhanced commuter amenities while retaining the local architectural character of each station. The initiative forms part of the Centre's broader programme to modernise railway infrastructure and improve transport connectivity across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate four redeveloped railway stations in Punjab under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme on 17 July, according to an announcement made in the past week by Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon. The programme includes the physical inauguration of the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station and the virtual dedication of the upgraded stations at S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Sri Muktsar Sahib and Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Dhillon said the four stations have been redeveloped as modern passenger transport hubs while preserving their local heritage and architectural identity. The projects form part of the Centre's ongoing initiative to upgrade railway stations with improved passenger infrastructure and modern facilities aimed at enhancing the travel experience across the Indian Railways network.
The redevelopment works include upgraded platforms, larger concourses, improved waiting areas, better accessibility features, lifts, escalators and other commuter-oriented infrastructure. The stations have also been equipped with facilities designed to improve passenger convenience while accommodating increasing footfall and operational requirements.
According to Dhillon, the station upgrades are part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which Indian Railways is redeveloping stations across the country into modern transport gateways. The scheme seeks to improve multimodal connectivity, strengthen regional mobility and support tourism, trade and economic activity through enhanced railway infrastructure.
He further stated that the inauguration reflects the Centre's continued investment in Punjab's transport infrastructure and its efforts to provide modern public facilities across the state. The BJP-led Union government, he added, remains focused on strengthening infrastructure through continued investment in railway, road and other public development projects.
The redevelopment of railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has become a key component of the Indian Railways' infrastructure modernisation programme, with projects focusing on passenger amenities, accessibility, station capacity and improved urban integration. The four Punjab stations are expected to strengthen regional rail connectivity while providing upgraded facilities for daily commuters and long-distance passengers travelling through the state.
