The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its action against unauthorised construction by demolishing 14 illegal properties, sealing another and issuing 16 show-cause notices to property owners. The action forms part of a wider enforcement campaign being carried out across the capital to curb violations of building regulations. Since the beginning of June, the civic body has demolished 681 unauthorised properties and sealed 398 others. Officials have also urged residents to obtain all mandatory approvals before undertaking any construction activity.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has demolished 14 unauthorised properties and sealed one additional property as part of its continuing drive against illegal construction across the national capital. The civic body also issued 16 show-cause notices to property owners for carrying out unauthorised construction, initiating legal proceedings under the provisions of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act.
The enforcement action was carried out by the MCD's Building Department across different parts of Delhi as part of its routine inspection and enforcement exercise to curb violations of building norms. Officials said the drive is aimed at ensuring compliance with approved building plans and preventing illegal developments that pose risks to public safety and urban infrastructure.
According to the civic body, the latest action is part of a larger citywide campaign launched to tackle unauthorised construction. Since the beginning of June, MCD has demolished 681 illegal properties and sealed 398 others across its various zones. The corporation has also been taking legal action against property owners found violating building regulations through notices and enforcement proceedings.
Officials also appealed to residents not to undertake any construction without obtaining the necessary permissions and approvals from the competent authority. They said adherence to sanctioned building plans and municipal regulations is essential to avoid legal action, including demolition and sealing of properties.
The crackdown comes as MCD continues to strengthen enforcement against unauthorised construction following increased scrutiny of illegal buildings and safety violations in Delhi. Over the past few months, the civic body has intensified inspections across residential and commercial areas, with multiple demolition and sealing drives carried out in different zones to improve compliance with municipal laws and curb illegal development.
