Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has commenced construction of its 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of INR 5,750 crore. The project combines 400 MW of solar and 400 MW of wind capacity and is being developed under the state's Integrated Clean Energy Policy. Spread across 3,462 acres, the project is expected to create around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs while strengthening India's renewable energy infrastructure through Inter-State Transmission System connectivity and supporting the country's clean energy capacity expansion.
Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has started construction of its 800 MW renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of INR 5,750 crore. The project includes 400 MW of wind power at Kanekallu in Ananthapuram district and 400 MW of solar power at Pattikonda in Kurnool district, according to a company statement.
The project has secured 800 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connectivity through the Ananthapuram II and Kurnool-4 CTUIL substations. This will enable renewable power generated from the project to be transmitted efficiently through the national transmission network, ensuring smooth evacuation of electricity.
The development is being carried out under the Andhra Pradesh Integrated Clean Energy (ICE) Policy, which aims to attract large-scale investments in renewable energy, increase clean power capacity and support sustainable industrial growth across the state.
The project will be spread across 3,462 acres, including about 2,700 acres for the solar installation and around 760 acres for the wind power facilities. According to the company, the project is also expected to generate annual lease rental income for landowners and create nearly 4,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities during the construction, development and operational stages.
Tata Power's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Praveer Sinha, said the project marks another step in the company's efforts to support India's clean energy transition. He added that the integration of 400 MW of solar and 400 MW of wind capacity is expected to help deliver reliable renewable power while meeting the country's increasing electricity demand and supporting sustainability goals.
Suzlon Group is the wind technology partner for the project. The company's Co-founder, Girish Tanti, said Andhra Pradesh accounts for nearly 38 per cent of Suzlon's installed wind energy capacity. Referring to the partnership with Tata Power, he said the companies have together crossed the 1 GW milestone, reflecting their continued focus on expanding renewable energy capacity and contributing to Andhra Pradesh's long-term energy security.
The project adds to Tata Power Renewable Energy's growing clean energy portfolio. Over the past few years, the company has expanded its presence across utility-scale solar, wind, hybrid and energy storage projects while increasing its renewable generation capacity in line with India's target of significantly expanding non-fossil fuel-based power generation over the coming years.
