TATA Starbucks is looking to strengthen its presence across both metropolitan markets and emerging high-growth cities as it continues its long-term expansion strategy in India. The company recently opened its first Starbucks Reserve store in South India, taking the total number of Reserve stores in the country to six. With more than 500 stores across over 80 cities, India has become one of Starbucks' fastest-growing markets globally. The company also reported 11 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in the first quarter of FY27, supported by strong same-store sales and continued customer demand.
TATA Starbucks plans to expand its footprint across major metropolitan markets as well as emerging high-growth cities as part of its long-term growth strategy in India, according to the company's Chief Executive Officer, Sushant Dash.
The company recently opened its first Starbucks Reserve store in South India, increasing its total number of Starbucks Reserve outlets in the country to six. Apart from the newly launched Hyderabad outlet, the company operates three Reserve stores in Delhi-NCR and one each in Mumbai and Kolkata.
Speaking to PTI, Dash said the company continues to see opportunities in both established metropolitan markets and emerging cities with strong growth potential. He said the focus remains on expanding in a planned manner while ensuring every new store delivers the customer experience that Starbucks is known for.
TATA Starbucks, a 50:50 joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Consumer Products, entered the Indian market in 2012. Since then, the company has steadily expanded its network and currently operates more than 500 stores across over 80 cities, making India one of Starbucks' fastest-growing markets globally.
Dash further said India continues to remain a key strategic market for the company. He added that the expansion strategy is centred on opening coffeehouses at the right locations and through suitable store formats to support sustainable long-term growth.
The company also plans to continue investing in premium coffee offerings through the Starbucks Reserve format while strengthening its presence across the country. It is also focusing on beverage and food innovation as customer preferences continue to evolve.
According to Tata Consumer Products' Q1 FY27 results announced recently, TATA Starbucks recorded an 11 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue. The growth was supported by strong same-store sales, reflecting healthy customer demand and improved store performance.
The expansion comes as organised café chains continue to increase their presence across India, driven by rising urbanisation, changing consumer lifestyles and growing demand for premium café experiences. Industry players have increasingly been expanding beyond major metropolitan centres into Tier II and other fast-growing cities to tap new consumer markets.
TATA Starbucks currently employs around 4,300 people across India. Dash said the company remains committed to creating opportunities for learning, professional growth and career development for its workforce as it continues to expand its operations.
