The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned INR 239.45 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for two road upgradation projects in Himachal Pradesh. The funding will support the improvement of the Chhaila–Neripul–Yashwant Nagar–Kumarhatti Road and the remaining stretch of the Tikkar–Jarol–Khamadi Road, with the projects aimed at strengthening connectivity in the state's horticulture belt. The approvals are expected to improve road access for farmers, horticulturists and local communities while enhancing regional transport infrastructure. The state government said construction work would begin after the completion of procedural formalities.
The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has granted administrative approval for two road upgradation projects in Himachal Pradesh with a combined investment of INR 239.45 crore under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for 2026–27. Announced earlier this week, the projects are intended to improve connectivity across key horticultural and rural regions of the state while supporting the movement of agricultural produce and local communities.
The sanctioned projects include the upgradation of the Chhaila–Neripul–Yashwant Nagar–Kumarhatti Road at an estimated cost of INR 203.52 crore and the remaining 16-km stretch of the Tikkar–Jarol–Khamadi Road, which has been approved at INR 35.93 crore. Together, the projects account for the total sanctioned amount of INR 239.45 crore.
Himachal Pradesh Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh said the approvals were the result of sustained coordination between the state government, the Public Works Department and the Union government. He stated that the projects had been consistently pursued with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari before receiving administrative clearance.
According to the minister, the Chhaila–Neripul–Yashwant Nagar–Kumarhatti Road project will improve connectivity across important apple-growing regions, while the Tikkar–Jarol–Khamadi Road project will complete the remaining section of the corridor. He said the improved road network would provide significant relief to farmers and horticulturists, particularly those in the Rampur Assembly constituency, by facilitating smoother transportation and better market access.
The state government indicated that construction activities on both projects are expected to commence after the completion of the required administrative and procedural formalities. Once completed, the upgraded roads are expected to strengthen regional connectivity, improve travel conditions and support economic activity across rural and horticulture-dependent areas of Himachal Pradesh.
The approvals form part of the Centre's continued investment in road infrastructure through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, which finances projects aimed at improving transport networks, enhancing regional accessibility and supporting economic development across states. For Himachal Pradesh, where road connectivity plays a critical role in linking remote hill regions with major markets, the latest funding is expected to improve logistics and mobility in some of the state's key agricultural and horticultural corridors.
