Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged the Centre to allocate 11,56,915 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0, citing growing rural housing demand and the need to provide permanent homes to eligible families. During a meeting with Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi, the Chief Minister said the requirement was identified through the Centre's Awaas+ survey. The state also requested the expansion of rural employment activities under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajivika Mission (VB-G RAM-G) and sought employment support for beneficiaries constructing houses under the state's Indiramma Housing Scheme.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the Centre to sanction 11,56,915 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0 to meet the state's rural housing requirement. The request was made during a meeting with Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi earlier this week.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that the demand for rural housing had increased after a significant number of eligible households remained outside the PMAY-G programme over the past decade. He stated that the requirement of 11,56,915 houses was identified through the Awaas+ survey conducted by the Telangana government using the application developed by the Union Ministry of Rural Development and urged the Centre to allocate the houses at the earliest.
In addition to seeking housing allocations, the Telangana government requested the Centre to broaden the scope of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajivika Mission (VB-G RAM-G) in view of the impact of El Niño conditions on rural livelihoods. The state proposed the inclusion of ten additional categories of work aimed at creating employment opportunities and supporting crop diversification for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, small and marginal farmers, and agricultural labourers affected by reduced agricultural activity.
The proposed activities include the development of vegetable trellis structures, fodder plots, mulberry plantations, silkworm rearing sheds, kitchen gardens, bamboo plantations, farmland development, water conservation works and restoration of land affected by natural calamities. According to the state government, expanding the list of permissible works would strengthen rural livelihoods while generating employment during periods of lower farm activity.
The Chief Minister also requested that beneficiaries constructing houses under Telangana's Indiramma Housing Scheme be brought within the ambit of the rural employment programme and be provided up to 90 days of wage employment during construction. The state said such support would reduce the financial burden on beneficiaries while accelerating rural housing delivery and improving livelihood opportunities.
The requests form part of Telangana's broader efforts to strengthen rural housing and employment support through greater convergence between central and state welfare programmes. If approved, the proposed PMAY-G allocation and expansion of employment-linked activities are expected to support the state's affordable rural housing programme while providing additional livelihood opportunities for economically weaker households.
