An IndiGo flight travelling from Dubai to Mumbai made a precautionary emergency landing at Rajkot International Airport after suspected smoke was detected in the aircraft's cargo hold. The flight, carrying 194 passengers and crew members, landed safely after airport authorities declared an emergency. All passengers were evacuated without any injuries, while the airline's technical team began inspecting the aircraft to determine the source of the smoke. Officials confirmed there was no fire on board, and the incident was handled according to standard aviation safety procedures.
An IndiGo flight operating from Dubai to Mumbai made a precautionary emergency landing at Rajkot International Airport after suspected smoke was detected in the aircraft's cargo hold, airport authorities said.
The flight, identified as IGO 1452, was carrying 194 passengers and crew members. Airport officials said the aircraft was diverted to Rajkot after the flight crew reported suspected smoke in the cargo hold area.
Following the alert from the aircraft, the airport declared an emergency as part of standard operating procedures to ensure a safe landing. The aircraft landed safely, after which all passengers and crew members were evacuated without any injuries.
Airport Police Inspector KP Taretiya said the pilot informed Air Traffic Control about the suspected smoke on board and requested permission for an emergency landing at Rajkot as a precautionary measure. He added that the aircraft landed safely and all passengers were moved to a designated area inside the airport terminal.
Officials said IndiGo's technical team reached the airport soon after the landing and started examining the aircraft to identify the source of the smoke. According to the police, no fire was found inside the aircraft during the initial inspection.
In aviation, reports of smoke or unusual odours on board are treated with the highest priority, and emergency landings are carried out as a preventive safety measure even when no visible fire is detected. Such incidents are followed by detailed technical inspections before an aircraft is cleared to resume operations.
