The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) deployed a special sanitation team to Pandharpur to support cleanliness efforts during the Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage, when lakhs of devotees visited the holy town. The initiative was undertaken as part of the Maharashtra Government's 'Adopt Cleanliness, Drive Away Diseases' campaign. The team carried out a two-day cleaning drive across key public locations, including the Vitthal Temple precinct, market area, Chandrabhaga riverfront and public toilets. The initiative aimed to maintain hygiene, prevent the spread of diseases and ensure a clean environment for pilgrims throughout the annual religious gathering.

The initiative was carried out under the Maharashtra Government's 'Adopt Cleanliness, Drive Away Diseases' campaign to maintain hygiene and support public health during the annual religious event.
Before the team left for Pandharpur, Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil met the sanitation staff and wished them success in carrying out the assignment. The civic body said the initiative reflected its commitment to supporting the state government's cleanliness efforts during major public gatherings.
Working under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Commissioner of the Solid Waste Management Department Dr Ajay Gade, the special sanitation team conducted a two-day cleanliness drive in Pandharpur over the past week. The team focused on maintaining cleanliness at locations that witness heavy footfall during the pilgrimage.
Led by Chief Sanitation Inspector Lavesh Patil and Navnath Thombre, a team of 30 sanitation workers carried out cleaning operations across the Vitthal Temple premises, nearby market areas and the flyover over the Chandrabhaga River. The workers also cleaned the Chandrabhaga riverbed and disinfected public toilet facilities by spraying disinfectant to improve sanitation standards.
According to the civic body, all members of the sanitation team participated in the drive with dedication and worked continuously to help keep the pilgrimage town clean, safe and hygienic during the Ashadhi celebrations. The exercise was aimed at ensuring better public hygiene while reducing the risk of disease outbreaks during the large-scale religious gathering.
NMMC has been extending sanitation support during the Ashadhi Wari in previous years as well, continuing its practice of deploying dedicated teams to assist local authorities in managing cleanliness during one of Maharashtra's largest annual pilgrimages. Such drives are undertaken to strengthen waste management and sanitation arrangements as the influx of devotees significantly increases pressure on civic infrastructure.
