Synopsis

The Delhi government has set December 2026 as the target for completing the capital's first double-decker flyover, an integrated road and Metro infrastructure project in northeast Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved a revised project cost of INR291 crore, up from the earlier estimate of INR 220.10 crore, during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC). The 1.40-km-long structure, being developed between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations, will accommodate both vehicular traffic and a Metro corridor on the same alignment. The project is expected to ease congestion, improve connectivity in northeast Delhi and optimise land use through integrated transport infrastructure.

The Delhi government has announced that the city's first double-decker flyover is expected to be completed by December 2026, marking a significant milestone in the capital's urban transport infrastructure. The project, which combines a road flyover and a Metro corridor within a single structure, is being developed in northeast Delhi to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who chaired a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC). During the meeting, the committee approved a revised project cost of INR291 crore, compared with the earlier sanctioned estimate of INR220.10 crore, enabling the project to move forward with the updated financial allocation.
The 1.40-km-long double-decker structure is being constructed between Yamuna Vihar and Bhajanpura Metro stations. Unlike conventional flyovers, the project integrates an elevated roadway with a Metro corridor, allowing both modes of transport to operate on the same alignment while making more efficient use of limited urban land.
According to the Delhi government, the project is the first of its kind in the city and has been designed to strengthen multimodal transportation by integrating road and rail infrastructure. Once operational, the flyover is expected to improve traffic movement along one of northeast Delhi's busy corridors while supporting the expansion of the Delhi Metro network.
Officials believe the integrated design will help reduce travel time, ease traffic bottlenecks and improve commuting efficiency for residents of the surrounding areas. The project is also expected to optimise available space in a densely populated part of the capital, where acquiring additional land for transport infrastructure remains a challenge.
The double-decker flyover forms part of the Delhi government's broader efforts to modernise urban transport infrastructure through projects that combine mobility, engineering efficiency and sustainable land utilisation. With construction targeted for completion by the end of the year, the project is expected to become a key addition to the city's integrated transport network and support improved
connectivity across northeast Delhi.
