Air India and Saudi Arabia's Saudia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen their strategic partnership through a phased expansion of cooperation. The agreement focuses on widening their existing codeshare arrangement, improving connectivity across both airline networks, exploring terminal co-location, and identifying new commercial and operational opportunities. The airlines will also examine collaboration between their loyalty programmes. In the longer term, the partnership could be extended to other airlines within their respective groups, including flyadeal and Air India Express, subject to future assessments.
Air India and Saudi Arabia's Saudia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their strategic partnership through a phased approach, building on the codeshare agreement that already exists between the two carriers.
Under the proposed framework, both airlines will work towards expanding their existing codeshare arrangement to offer passengers greater connectivity across their respective domestic and international networks. The partnership also includes plans to improve travel convenience by exploring terminal co-location at select airports, which could help simplify transfers and reduce connecting times for passengers.
The agreement further outlines plans to identify additional operational and commercial opportunities between the two airlines. As part of these efforts, Air India and Saudia will examine ways to cooperate through their respective loyalty programmes, allowing frequent flyers to benefit from a more integrated travel experience in the future.
The airlines also said they will assess the possibility of extending the partnership to other carriers within their respective aviation groups. This could include Saudi Arabia's low-cost airline flyadeal and Air India Express, the Tata Group-owned low-cost subsidiary of Air India, subject to future evaluations.
The expanded cooperation comes as Air India continues to strengthen its global network following its acquisition by the Tata Group. The airline has been increasing international partnerships, fleet expansion and network integration as part of its long-term transformation strategy. For Saudia, the collaboration supports its efforts to improve international connectivity in line with Saudi Arabia's broader aviation growth plans and Vision 2030, which aims to position the country as a major global aviation and tourism hub.
