The Madhya Pradesh Rural Road Development Authority (MPRRDA) has invited bids for the repair and maintenance of rural roads and cross-drainage structures in Rewa district under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and other government schemes. The contract covers roads that have completed their initial five-year maintenance period, with the selected contractor expected to undertake restoration and upkeep works to improve road quality, safety and connectivity across the project area.
The Madhya Pradesh Rural Road Development Authority (MPRRDA) has floated a tender for the repair and maintenance of rural roads and associated cross-drainage (CD) works in Rewa district, marking another step in the state's ongoing efforts to preserve road infrastructure created under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and other public works programmes.
According to the tender issued by the authority, the proposed work pertains to roads that have already completed their initial five-year construction and maintenance period. The contract falls under the "Post 5 Years (BW)" category, which focuses on the upkeep and rehabilitation of bituminous rural roads after the original maintenance liability of the construction contractor has expired.
The project has been estimated at approximately INR 67.07 lakh and covers maintenance works within the Rewa-2 (Mauganj) division. The scope includes repairs to rural road stretches as well as cross-drainage infrastructure such as culverts and other drainage structures that are essential for ensuring uninterrupted connectivity, particularly during the monsoon season.
Post-construction maintenance forms a critical component of the PMGSY programme, as rural roads require periodic resurfacing, pavement strengthening and drainage improvements to remain serviceable over their operational life. Regular maintenance helps extend the lifespan of road assets while reducing future rehabilitation costs and ensuring reliable access for villages connected through the scheme.
Infrastructure experts note that timely maintenance of rural roads is as important as new road construction. Deteriorating pavement conditions, blocked drainage systems and damaged cross-drainage structures can significantly affect rural mobility, agricultural transport, emergency services and access to schools and healthcare facilities.
The authority has invited eligible contractors to participate in the open tender process, with technical and financial bids to be evaluated in accordance with the prescribed bidding conditions. The tender forms part of MPRRDA's continuing programme to maintain rural transport infrastructure across Madhya Pradesh through periodic repair and rehabilitation works.
The maintenance initiative aligns with the broader objective of preserving investments made under PMGSY and other rural connectivity schemes. By focusing on roads that have moved beyond their initial maintenance cycle, the state aims to ensure that previously constructed infrastructure continues to provide safe and reliable connectivity to rural communities over the long term.
