The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is expected to operationalise its multilevel car parking facility at Bhikaji Cama Place by mid-October, adding organised parking infrastructure to one of the capital's prominent commercial districts. Designed to accommodate 480 equivalent car spaces (ECS), the project incorporates automated parking systems, electric vehicle charging points and modern safety features. The facility is intended to reduce roadside parking, improve traffic circulation and support the growing demand for organised parking in the busy office and commercial hub.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is preparing to commission its multilevel car parking (MLCP) facility at Bhikaji Cama Place by mid-October, marking another step in its efforts to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve traffic management in Delhi's commercial centres. The project has been developed to provide organised parking in an area that experiences heavy daily vehicular movement due to its concentration of office buildings, commercial establishments and institutional offices.
The parking structure has been planned with a capacity of 480 equivalent car spaces (ECS) and incorporates an automated parking system intended to optimise space utilisation and improve operational efficiency. Besides accommodating private vehicles, the facility has been designed with supporting infrastructure such as electric vehicle charging stations, fire safety systems, surveillance equipment, lifts and access control mechanisms to ensure safe and efficient operations once the project becomes functional.
Bhikaji Cama Place has long faced parking shortages because of increasing vehicle ownership and sustained commercial activity. The absence of adequate organised parking has often resulted in vehicles being parked along internal roads and adjoining streets, affecting traffic flow and pedestrian movement. By creating a dedicated parking facility, the DDA aims to consolidate vehicle parking within a structured environment while reducing pressure on surrounding road infrastructure.
The project forms part of the authority's wider initiative to introduce multilevel parking facilities at locations witnessing persistent parking demand across the national capital. Similar infrastructure has been planned to maximise land utilisation in dense urban areas where creating large surface parking lots is no longer feasible. The use of automated parking technology is also expected to improve vehicle retrieval times and increase parking efficiency without requiring additional land.
According to the project specifications, the facility has been equipped with systems that support both operational management and user safety. These include automated entry and exit arrangements, surveillance through CCTV, fire detection and suppression systems, standby power supply and dedicated areas for electric vehicle charging. Such features are intended to ensure that the parking complex meets contemporary operational and safety requirements while catering to changing mobility patterns.
Beyond addressing parking demand, the project is expected to contribute to improved urban mobility by discouraging indiscriminate roadside parking that frequently constrains carriageway capacity in commercial districts. Better parking management can also assist emergency vehicle movement, enhance pedestrian accessibility and create a more organised streetscape around one of Delhi's established business centres.
The Bhikaji Cama Place facility reflects the DDA's continued focus on integrating transport-supporting infrastructure into urban planning initiatives. Along with improving parking availability, the authority aims to create facilities that complement commercial activity while responding to the evolving requirements of a growing metropolitan population.
Once operational, the multilevel parking complex is expected to provide a long-term parking solution for office-goers, business visitors and commuters frequenting the Bhikaji Cama Place area. The project is anticipated to strengthen supporting urban infrastructure by combining modern parking technology with efficient land utilisation in one of Delhi's important commercial destinations.
