Ashok Leyland sees infrastructure spending, replacement demand supporting CV growth in FY27

Synopsis

Ashok Leyland expects India's commercial vehicle (CV) industry to record single-digit growth in FY27, supported by sustained public infrastructure spending, replacement demand and improving freight movement. The company believes government investment in highways, logistics parks, urban infrastructure and construction activity will continue to create demand for medium and heavy commercial vehicles. Alongside infrastructure-led purchases, ageing vehicle replacement and fleet modernisation are expected to support sales across segments. While acknowledging near-term macroeconomic uncertainties, the company remains optimistic that infrastructure development will remain a key driver of commercial vehicle demand during the financial year.

India's commercial vehicle industry is expected to maintain a steady growth trajectory in FY27, with infrastructure development and replacement demand likely to remain the primary growth drivers, according to Ashok Leyland. The company expects the sector to expand in the single-digit range as government capital expenditure on transport and logistics infrastructure continues to support freight movement and construction activity across the country.
Speaking about the industry's outlook, company executives indicated that large-scale investments in highways, expressways, ports, industrial corridors and urban infrastructure are expected to generate sustained demand for trucks and other commercial vehicles. These projects typically require significant transportation of construction materials and equipment, while also improving freight efficiency over the long term.
Apart from new infrastructure-led demand, Ashok Leyland expects replacement purchases to play an equally important role during FY27. A sizeable number of commercial vehicles purchased several years ago are approaching the end of their operating life, encouraging fleet operators to upgrade to newer, more fuel-efficient and technologically advanced models. Fleet modernisation is also being supported by changing regulatory requirements and the need to improve operating efficiency.
The company noted that freight availability has remained broadly stable, while economic activity across manufacturing, construction and logistics sectors continues to provide support to commercial vehicle utilisation. Growth in e-commerce, warehousing and organised logistics is also contributing to demand across different commercial vehicle categories.
Ashok Leyland expects the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment to particularly benefit from continued investments in public infrastructure. Road construction, mining activity, industrial expansion and urban development projects typically create sustained demand for heavy-duty trucks used in material movement and project logistics.
While remaining optimistic about FY27, the company acknowledged that the industry will continue to monitor factors such as commodity prices, interest rates, fuel costs and broader economic conditions, all of which can influence fleet purchase decisions. Nevertheless, it believes that India's ongoing infrastructure pipeline and government capital expenditure programme provide a favourable backdrop for the commercial vehicle sector.
Industry observers also point to the government's continued focus on expanding the national highway network, multimodal logistics infrastructure and industrial manufacturing as factors that could support freight demand over the medium term. These investments are expected to improve connectivity, reduce logistics costs and create additional transportation requirements, benefiting commercial vehicle manufacturers.
Ashok Leyland said it remains focused on strengthening its product portfolio, expanding its presence across vehicle segments and capitalising on opportunities arising from infrastructure-led economic growth. With replacement demand expected to remain healthy and infrastructure spending continuing across the country, the company sees FY27 as another year of stable growth for India's commercial vehicle industry.
