Synopsis

The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated the acquisition of 1,903 acres in Srikakulam district for the second phase of the Mulapeta Port project, reinforcing its strategy to expand maritime infrastructure along the state's coastline. The land will support the development of port-related facilities and improve cargo handling capacity. The move forms part of a broader programme under which the state has approved land acquisition for multiple port projects aimed at strengthening logistics, industrial growth and coastal connectivity.

The Andhra Pradesh government has begun the process of acquiring 1,903 acres of land for the second phase of the Mulapeta Port project in Srikakulam district, as it advances plans to strengthen the state's port infrastructure and enhance its logistics network.
Officials have initiated land identification and acquisition procedures following the state's approval for the next stage of development. The additional land is expected to be used for expanding port infrastructure, creating cargo handling facilities and developing supporting industrial and logistics assets required for future operations.
Mulapeta Port is being developed as one of Andhra Pradesh's key deep-water ports on the northern coast. The project is intended to improve maritime connectivity, facilitate cargo movement and support industrial activity across the region by providing an additional gateway for exports and imports.
The proposed expansion is part of the government's wider plan to increase port capacity along its coastline. Alongside Mulapeta, the state has approved the acquisition of land for other port projects, taking the total land earmarked under the latest phase to more than 6,000 acres. These projects are expected to strengthen the state's position as a major maritime and logistics hub on India's east coast.
Authorities have started preliminary surveys to identify the required parcels of land and will undertake the acquisition process in accordance with applicable regulations. The government is expected to complete statutory procedures before handing over the land for project execution.
The expansion is aimed at accommodating future cargo growth and attracting industries that depend on efficient port access. Improved port infrastructure is also expected to enhance multimodal connectivity by integrating road, rail and maritime transport, thereby reducing logistics costs for businesses operating in the region.
The state government has identified ports, industrial corridors and logistics infrastructure as key drivers of economic growth and investment. Expanding Mulapeta Port is expected to complement these initiatives by creating additional capacity for trade while supporting employment and industrial development in north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Once the second phase is completed, the expanded port is expected to play a larger role in handling cargo traffic and supporting the state's long-term maritime and industrial development objectives.
