Synopsis

Goa Tourism has reviewed a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the state's position as a year-round tourism destination. The plans include a proposed partnership with TUI Group to improve Goa's visibility in Europe, large-scale celebrations for World Tourism Day 2026, and the promotion of sports tourism through international events. The state is also focusing on digital transformation, sustainability, stakeholder collaboration and community participation as part of its long-term tourism strategy to attract diverse visitor segments and strengthen its global presence.

Goa Tourism has reviewed a series of strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the state's position as a year-round tourism destination. The proposals include a partnership with global travel company TUI Group, preparations for World Tourism Day 2026 celebrations and efforts to expand sports tourism.
The initiatives were reviewed during the 29th meeting of the Empowered Committee on Marketing and Public Relations under the Goa Tourism Board, chaired by State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
According to the Department of Tourism, the committee discussed measures to strengthen destination marketing, expand international partnerships, promote sports tourism, improve digital engagement and enhance collaboration with tourism stakeholders. These initiatives form part of the state's broader strategy to diversify tourism offerings beyond the traditional peak season and attract visitors throughout the year.
Preparations for World Tourism Day 2026 also came up for discussion. Goa plans to celebrate the occasion on a large scale under the UN Tourism theme, 'Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.' The Department of Tourism, along with the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), is planning month-long programmes involving tourism stakeholders, industry partners and local communities. The activities are expected to focus on innovation, digital transformation, sustainability and responsible tourism.
The committee also reviewed proposals to host international sporting events, including IRONMAN 70.3 Goa and Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT). Officials believe these events can attract new categories of travellers, encourage sports tourism and further diversify the state's tourism portfolio.
Speaking after the meeting, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said Goa's tourism strategy is focused on long-term and sustainable growth through strategic planning and partnerships. He said the government's priority is to build a resilient and future-ready tourism ecosystem that keeps the state competitive in global markets while showcasing Goa's diverse tourism experiences throughout the year.
The committee also discussed a proposed partnership with TUI Group for the 2026-27 tourist season. The collaboration is expected to improve Goa's visibility across key European markets through destination marketing campaigns, trade engagement initiatives and the promotion of sustainable tourism practices.
TUI Group is one of the world's largest integrated tourism companies with a strong presence across Europe. Goa has traditionally been a preferred destination for international charter tourists, particularly from European countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany. Strengthening ties with global travel companies is expected to support the state's efforts to increase international tourist arrivals and expand its overseas market reach.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the discussions reflected the department's focus on innovation, international partnerships, experiential tourism and community participation to build a sustainable tourism ecosystem. He added that the initiatives are intended to improve visitor experiences while ensuring tourism growth benefits local communities.
Goa Tourism has been increasingly promoting niche tourism segments such as wellness, adventure, eco-tourism, heritage and cultural tourism alongside beach tourism. The state has also been encouraging responsible tourism practices through infrastructure improvements, digital initiatives and collaboration with industry stakeholders to maintain its competitiveness in the domestic and international tourism markets.
