Drivn has partnered with Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions to deploy 100 electric buses across major intercity routes in India through a long-term operating lease model. The collaboration will allow Prasanna Purple to expand its electric fleet without significant upfront investment while receiving long-term fleet support. The first batch of buses is scheduled to begin operations in the coming weeks on corridors including Mumbai-Pune, Bengaluru-Chennai and Hyderabad-Vijayawada. The partnership also reflects the growing adoption of electric mobility in the private intercity bus segment through flexible financing models.
Drivn has entered into a partnership with private intercity bus operator Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions to deploy 100 electric buses across key intercity corridors in India, marking another step towards expanding electric mobility in the country's commercial passenger transport sector.
As part of the agreement, Drivn will lease the electric buses to Prasanna Purple under its long-term operating lease model. The arrangement is aimed at helping the bus operator expand its electric fleet without making large upfront capital investments while also receiving long-term fleet management and operational support.
The first batch of electric buses is expected to be deployed in the coming weeks across major routes, including Mumbai-Pune, Bengaluru-Chennai and Hyderabad-Vijayawada. The companies are also evaluating additional corridors to expand operations after the initial deployment is completed.
According to the companies, the partnership is intended to support the electrification of India's private intercity bus segment through an asset-light leasing model. This approach is designed to make the transition to electric mobility more financially viable for private operators by reducing the burden of vehicle ownership while ensuring long-term access to the fleet.
Drivn Co-founder and Chief Business Officer Alpna Jain said that large-scale commercial electrification requires business models that make the transition economically practical for fleet operators. She stated that the company's operating lease model has been designed to provide predictable, competitive and long-term capital support, making it easier for operators to adopt electric vehicles.
Jain also said that operators are increasingly using Drivn's proprietary technology platform to improve revenue generation and manage their electric fleets more efficiently, supporting day-to-day fleet operations.
Prasanna Group Director Saurabh P. Patwardhan said that the partnership with Drivn represents an important move towards cleaner and more sustainable intercity travel. He added that the company believes electric mobility can provide the reliability, passenger comfort and operational efficiency expected from modern intercity transport while helping accelerate wider adoption across the industry.
The collaboration comes as India's electric commercial vehicle market continues to gain momentum, supported by government initiatives, improving charging infrastructure and growing interest among fleet operators in reducing operating costs and emissions. While electric buses have seen wider adoption in state-run public transport fleets under central and state government programmes, the private intercity bus segment is also gradually increasing investments in electric mobility through leasing and asset-light business models.
