Synopsis

CIDCO has transferred Kharghar, Taloja Panchanand and Pendhar railway stations in Navi Mumbai to Central Railway, which will now oversee their operations, maintenance and passenger services. The stations are part of the Belapur–Uran suburban rail corridor developed to improve connectivity across the city’s growing residential and commercial areas. The handover integrates the facilities into Central Railway’s operational network and marks a key step in the transition of transport infrastructure developed by CIDCO to long-term railway management.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has formally transferred three railway stations in Navi Mumbai—Kharghar, Taloja Panchanand and Pendhar to Central Railway, handing over responsibility for their operation, maintenance and administration. The move follows the completion of station infrastructure on the Belapur–Uran suburban railway corridor and integrates the facilities into Central Railway’s operational network.
The transfer was completed through a formal handover process involving officials from CIDCO and Central Railway. The three stations were developed by CIDCO as part of the broader suburban rail expansion programme undertaken to improve public transport connectivity across Navi Mumbai and support growth in emerging residential and commercial nodes.
Kharghar, Taloja Panchanand and Pendhar stations are located on the Belapur–Pendhar section of the Belapur–Uran rail corridor. The corridor has been developed in phases and forms an important component of the transport infrastructure network serving Navi Mumbai. The rail line connects rapidly developing residential areas and provides access to key employment, educational and institutional centres across the region.
With the transfer now completed, Central Railway will assume responsibility for station management, passenger amenities, maintenance activities and operational oversight. The arrangement aligns with the standard framework under which railway infrastructure developed by planning and development agencies is eventually integrated into the Indian Railways network after construction and commissioning.
Officials indicated that the handover would facilitate unified management of services on the corridor and allow Central Railway to directly oversee maintenance and operational requirements. The transfer is also expected to improve coordination between railway operations and future infrastructure upgrades on the route.
The Belapur–Uran railway project has been one of Navi Mumbai’s major transport infrastructure initiatives. Developed jointly by CIDCO and railway authorities, the corridor was planned to strengthen suburban rail connectivity and provide public transport access to expanding urban areas in Navi Mumbai. The project is also regarded as an important component of the region’s wider transport network, which includes metro rail, road corridors and infrastructure linked to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport.
CIDCO has played a central role in planning and delivering transport infrastructure across Navi Mumbai since the city’s inception. In addition to railway development, the agency has undertaken projects related to metro rail, roads, housing and urban infrastructure. The transfer of the three stations represents another stage in the transition of completed transport assets from the development authority to the agencies responsible for long-term operations.
The handover comes as Navi Mumbai continues to witness significant infrastructure investment aimed at accommodating population growth and improving connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Integration of the stations into Central Railway’s network is expected to support ongoing suburban rail services and future expansion plans along the corridor.
