The Ministry of Labour and Employment has scheduled the hearing of 178 long-pending worker-related claim cases involving the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) as part of a nationwide drive to accelerate the resolution of labour disputes. The hearings will be conducted on 24 June by the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi, acting under the Code on Wages, 2019. The cases have been grouped for focused disposal under a special campaign running from 1 June to 31 August. The ministry said the initiative aims to reduce case pendency through cluster-based hearings, improve administrative efficiency and ensure quicker delivery of justice to workers involved in long-standing labour claims.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment has initiated a focused effort to resolve long-pending labour disputes involving the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), with 178 worker-related claim cases scheduled for hearing on 24 June. The exercise forms part of a special nationwide drive aimed at expediting the disposal of pending labour matters and improving access to timely dispute resolution.
According to a ministry statement issued on 22 June, all 178 claims linked to DMRC have been identified for concentrated hearings before the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi, who is also the designated authority under the Code on Wages, 2019. The objective is to reduce pendency and facilitate faster resolution of worker grievances.
The ministry stated that notices were issued on 15 June directing all concerned parties to appear for hearings on 24 June. The designated date has been reserved exclusively for matters relating to DMRC, allowing labour authorities to address a large number of similar cases through a structured process.
The hearings are being conducted under a special disposal campaign launched by the Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central). The campaign, which began on 1 June and will continue until 31 August, focuses on resolving long-standing labour disputes across sectors through targeted interventions and dedicated hearing schedules.
According to the ministry, the initiative represents a shift towards a cluster-based approach to case management. Instead of addressing disputes individually over extended periods, authorities are grouping similar matters together and conducting focused hearings to improve efficiency and reduce delays.
The labour ministry indicated that such clustering of cases allows labour authorities to handle large volumes of disputes in a more organised and time-bound manner. The approach is expected to streamline proceedings while ensuring that workers receive quicker adjudication of their claims.
The ministry also noted that the Additional General Manager (Projects) of DMRC has assured full cooperation with the special drive, which is intended to facilitate the smooth conduct of proceedings and support timely disposal of cases.
DMRC, which operates the Delhi Metro network, is a joint venture between the Central Government and the Government of Delhi. The organisation is one of the country’s largest urban transit operators and employs a substantial workforce directly and through contractors involved in infrastructure development and operational activities.
The labour ministry stated that the exercise could serve as a template for handling pending labour disputes elsewhere in the country. By adopting cluster-based hearings and dedicating resources to similar categories of cases, authorities aim to improve administrative efficiency, strengthen labour law enforcement mechanisms and reduce the backlog of unresolved worker claims.
