Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed a 30-key Tree of Life resort at Chilika Lake in Odisha, marking the hospitality brand’s entry into the state through a greenfield development project. The company said the signing aligns with its strategy of expanding into experiential travel destinations. Separately, Quess Corp announced a strategic collaboration with Institution for a Global Society (IGS) and Indo-Pacific Advisory (IPA) to establish an Indo-Japan Global Capability Centre (GCC) corridor. The initiative aims to assist Japanese companies in setting up and expanding operations in India while creating skilled employment opportunities across high-growth sectors.
Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed a new Tree of Life resort at Chilika Lake in Odisha, strengthening its presence in India’s leisure hospitality market and marking the brand’s entry into the eastern state.
The proposed greenfield project will comprise 30 keys and will be developed under the Tree of Life brand portfolio. The announcement was made by IHCL on 23 June as part of its ongoing expansion strategy focused on destinations with growing tourism and experiential travel demand.
According to the company, the project will be located near Chilika Lake, one of India's most prominent coastal and ecological destinations. The signing expands IHCL’s footprint in emerging tourism markets while adding a new destination to the Tree of Life network.
Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate and Development at IHCL, stated that the project aligns with the company’s strategy of expanding into locations that offer strong experiential appeal. She added that the company was pleased to partner with Sanjay Gadodia for the development of the resort.
The signing reflects continued interest from hospitality operators in expanding into destination-led leisure markets, where demand is increasingly being driven by nature-based tourism, short-stay travel and experiential accommodation formats.
In a separate development, Quess Corp announced a strategic collaboration through its wholly owned subsidiary, Quess International Services Private Limited, with Institution for a Global Society (IGS) and Indo-Pacific Advisory (IPA) to establish an Indo-Japan Global Capability Centre (GCC) corridor.
The initiative is intended to support Japanese enterprises seeking to establish, expand and transform their operations in India. Under the partnership, Quess International Services will assist companies across a range of high-growth sectors by providing support for operational setup, workforce requirements and business expansion initiatives.
Quess Corp said the collaboration is aimed at creating a structured framework that enables Japanese organisations to utilise India as a hub for capability centres and business operations. The programme is also expected to contribute to employment generation by creating opportunities for skilled Indian professionals.
Lohit Bhatia, Executive Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of Quess Corp, stated that the collaboration would help establish a dedicated Indo-Japan GCC corridor that supports Japanese businesses in scaling operations in India while simultaneously creating high-skilled employment opportunities in the country.
The announcements from IHCL and Quess Corp highlight ongoing investment activity across hospitality and business services sectors, with companies pursuing expansion opportunities linked to tourism development, global capability centres and international business partnerships.
