Residents of Shahu Nagar in Dharavi have demanded a stay on the ongoing eviction process linked to the Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP), raising concerns about rehabilitation arrangements and seeking greater clarity on their future housing rights.
According to information gathered from multiple sources, residents of several buildings in the locality were recently served notices asking them to vacate their homes as part of the initial phase of the redevelopment exercise. The notices form part of efforts to clear land required for the implementation of the large-scale urban renewal project in Dharavi.
However, residents have argued that they require formal documentation detailing rehabilitation provisions before moving out. Their primary demand is a written agreement specifying the size of replacement homes, timelines for rehabilitation and other conditions governing their resettlement.
