Authorities in Gurugram have stepped up enforcement action against unauthorised constructions in DLF Phase III, sealing 181 paying guest (PG) rooms and 29 commercial units over three days. The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) also demolished illegal structures, including a 45-room PG facility, and identified a 128-room unauthorised accommodation block during the drive. Officials said the action targets properties operating in violation of approved building plans and land-use norms, with further enforcement measures expected in the area.
The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP), Haryana, has intensified its crackdown on unauthorised constructions in DLF Phase III, Gurugram, carrying out a multi-day enforcement drive that has resulted in the sealing of 181 paying guest (PG) rooms and 29 commercial units.
The operation, undertaken with support from the district administration and police, entered its third day in the past week. Officials said the action was aimed at curbing illegal commercial activities and unauthorised residential conversions in one of the city's prominent residential localities.
During the drive, authorities demolished a 45-room PG facility that had allegedly been constructed without approvals. Officials also discovered a 128-room unauthorised PG establishment, the scale of which surprised enforcement teams. Several shops and commercial establishments found to be operating in violation of approved plans were also sealed.
According to DTCP officials, many residential properties in DLF Phase III had been converted into large-scale PG accommodations and commercial establishments without obtaining the required permissions. The department stated that these activities were in breach of zoning regulations and building norms.
The action follows complaints regarding rampant unauthorised construction and misuse of residential plots. Authorities said notices had been issued earlier to several property owners, but violations continued despite warnings.
The drive also covered properties being used as hotels, guest houses and healthcare facilities without the requisite approvals. Officials indicated that inspections would continue and additional action would be taken against buildings found to be violating land-use regulations.
Residents' welfare associations in the area have repeatedly raised concerns over congestion, parking issues and strain on civic infrastructure caused by the proliferation of illegal PG accommodations and commercial units. Authorities said the enforcement exercise seeks to restore planned land use and ensure compliance with development norms.
Officials maintained that the campaign is part of a broader effort to tackle unauthorised construction across Gurugram and warned that further sealing and demolition operations would be carried out if violations persist.
The DTCP has indicated that similar drives may be undertaken in other sectors where residential properties are being commercially exploited in contravention of approved plans, as the department seeks to strengthen enforcement and regulate urban growth in the city.
