Synopsis

Speciality Restaurants Limited has expanded its hospitality portfolio with the launch of Gong, a premium Pan Asian restaurant in Mumbai's Bandra. The new outlet marks the company's focus on modern, experience-driven dining concepts designed to appeal to evolving consumer preferences. Gong combines progressive Asian cuisine, contemporary interiors and premium hospitality while introducing a scalable restaurant format with higher average spending potential and operational efficiency. The launch also reflects the company's broader strategy of strengthening its presence across premium dining segments while building future-ready hospitality brands alongside its established restaurant portfolio.

Speciality Restaurants Limited, one of India's leading hospitality companies known for restaurant brands including Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta and Asia Kitchen by Mainland China, has opened Gong, a premium Pan Asian restaurant in Bandra, Mumbai. The new outlet marks the company's continued expansion into contemporary dining formats as it looks to cater to changing consumer preferences and strengthen its premium hospitality portfolio.
The launch represents a new phase in the company's growth strategy, with an emphasis on modern restaurant concepts that combine cuisine, design and hospitality. Built around progressive Pan Asian cuisine, immersive interiors and elevated guest experiences, Gong reflects the company's effort to introduce concepts that appeal to younger diners while building on the operational expertise and culinary legacy it has established over the years.
Avik Chatterjee, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Speciality Restaurants Limited, said Gong reflects the company's vision of creating hospitality experiences where food, design, culture, music and emotions come together. He added that the concept was developed to meet the growing demand for dining destinations that offer not only quality food but also memorable experiences, while remaining closely connected to Mumbai's evolving restaurant culture. According to him, the launch is part of the company's long-term strategy of driving growth through innovation, relevance and sustainable brand development.
Speciality Restaurants Limited has built a strong presence in India's organised dining sector over the years through brands spanning Chinese, regional Indian and casual dining segments. Mainland China has been one of the country's earliest premium Chinese dining chains, while Oh! Calcutta has focused on regional Bengali cuisine. Through multiple restaurant formats, the company has expanded its presence across major Indian cities as well as select international markets.
With Gong, the company is entering a new phase focused on design-led restaurant concepts, changing consumer behaviour and globally inspired dining experiences.
Located on Linking Road in Bandra, Gong has been designed as a premium Pan Asian destination offering a blend of cuisine, interiors and ambience. Designed by Sumessh Menon Associates, the restaurant draws inspiration from the philosophy of Asian Sound Soul and features contemporary interiors with brass and bronze elements, earthy textures, customised lighting, and separate indoor and outdoor dining spaces suited to Mumbai's premium restaurant market.
The restaurant's culinary programme is led by Chef Sahil Singh, Chief of Culinary and Operations – Innovation and New Formats at Speciality Restaurants Limited. Drawing on experience across Indian and international hospitality markets, he has developed a menu centred on progressive Pan Asian cuisine featuring bold flavours, modern presentation and a guest-focused dining approach.
The company said Gong also introduces a new operating model aimed at improving business efficiency. The format has been planned with a higher average per-customer spend (APC), better space utilisation and faster table turnover, making it suitable for future expansion. As consumers increasingly seek experience-led dining, Speciality Restaurants is focusing on restaurant concepts that combine strong culinary offerings, distinctive brand positioning and long-term scalability.
Along with Gong, the company's portfolio includes brands such as Mainland China, Oh! Calcutta, Asia Kitchen by Mainland China, Sigree, Hoppipola, Episode One, Sweet Bengal and Walters, enabling it to serve customers across premium, casual and regional dining categories in India and overseas.
Gong has started operations at the eighth floor of Mansionz One on Linking Road in Bandra, Mumbai. The restaurant is open daily from 12 noon until midnight.
