Tata Power has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging network to 10,000 public charging points by 2030, underscoring its commitment to building one of India's most extensive charging ecosystems. The announcement accompanies the inauguration of India's largest TATA.ev MegaCharger Hub in Mumbai, a milestone that reflects the company's growing focus on supporting the country's accelerating transition towards electric mobility.
The expansion forms part of Tata Power's broader strategy to strengthen charging infrastructure across urban centres, highways and key travel corridors. According to the company, the growing adoption of electric vehicles requires a robust and reliable charging network capable of supporting both private and commercial users. By significantly increasing charging availability over the next five years, Tata Power aims to address one of the key barriers to EV adoption access to convenient charging facilities.
At present, Tata Power operates more than 5,500 public and captive EV charging points spread across over 630 cities and towns in India. The network caters to a wide range of users and includes charging facilities located on highways, at airports, shopping malls, tourist destinations, commercial establishments and residential societies. In addition, the company has installed over 1.4 lakh home chargers and more than 1,200 charging points for electric buses, enabling charging solutions across multiple mobility segments.
The company's future plans extend beyond public charging stations. Tata Power intends to increase its home charging installations to 7.5 lakh units by 2030, recognising that residential charging will remain an essential component of India's EV ecosystem. By expanding both public and private charging infrastructure simultaneously, the company aims to provide a seamless charging experience for electric vehicle owners irrespective of where they travel or park their vehicles.
The newly inaugurated MegaCharger Hub in Mumbai represents an important addition to this network. Designed to support fast charging for electric vehicles, the facility is expected to improve charging accessibility in one of the country's busiest metropolitan regions. Mumbai already hosts more than 1,000 Tata Power charging points, making it one of the company's largest operational markets for EV infrastructure.
India's electric mobility sector has been witnessing rapid growth, supported by favourable government policies, expanding EV model availability and increasing consumer awareness about sustainable transportation. As EV sales continue to rise, charging infrastructure providers are investing heavily in expanding networks capable of meeting future demand.
