The Punjab government has commenced construction of a new road over bridge (ROB) in Dhuri, Sangrur district, with an investment of INR 54.76 crore aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving regional connectivity. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone for the project in the past week, stating that the two-lane bridge with a pedestrian footpath will be built over the Sheron Distributary near Level Crossing No. 62-A on the Rajpura–Bathinda railway line. Funded by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB), the project has secured all statutory approvals and is scheduled for completion by October 2027. The state government said the bridge has been designed to improve transport infrastructure while ensuring uninterrupted access through the existing lower railway crossing to support local businesses and residents.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann laid the foundation stone for an INR 54.76 crore road over bridge (ROB) in Dhuri, Sangrur district, in the past week as part of the state's infrastructure development programme. The project, to be executed with financial support from the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB), will construct a two-lane bridge with a pedestrian footpath over the Sheron Distributary adjacent to Level Crossing No. 62-A on the Rajpura–Bathinda railway line. The government expects the bridge to ease traffic congestion, improve regional connectivity and support the area's socio-economic development. The project is targeted for completion by October 2027.
Addressing the gathering after the foundation stone ceremony, Mann said the required no-objection certificates and statutory approvals had already been obtained from the Railways, the Forest Department, BSNL and other concerned agencies, enabling work to proceed without administrative delays. He stated that the government had committed to completing the project within 18 months, with the bridge expected to be operational by October 2027.
According to the state government, the new ROB is expected to reduce traffic bottlenecks in Dhuri and neighbouring areas by providing a safer and more efficient route across the railway line. It will also strengthen the local transport network by facilitating smoother movement of vehicles and pedestrians while improving connectivity within the region.
Mann said the Punjab government had fully funded the project to ensure that the existing lower railway crossing remains operational, allowing local commercial activity to continue without disruption and preventing the city from being divided by the railway corridor. He described the project as an engineering undertaking because the bridge is being constructed over both an active canal and an operational railway line.
The Chief Minister also highlighted other development works undertaken in the Dhuri constituency. He said a public library had already been established to improve public access to books and learning resources, while the local canal had been covered and redeveloped into a community space for residents.
During the event, Mann thanked residents of Dhuri for their support in the recent municipal council elections, where his party secured 19 of the 21 councillor seats. He added that the appointment of the new Municipal Council President would take place shortly. Separately, the Chief Minister flagged off 50 LED-equipped mobile documentary vans that will travel across nearly 13,000 villages in Punjab to showcase documentaries marking the 650th Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ravidass Ji and promoting his message of equality, social justice and universal brotherhood.
