Synopsis

• The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) removed illegal encroachments from municipal land in Chhota Bangarda and partially demolished an unsafe residential building in Chhoti Gwaltoli as part of its ongoing enforcement drive.
• The action followed complaints over unauthorized occupation of land reserved for a public garden, while the demolition was carried out to prevent accidents during the monsoon.
• Police personnel accompanied the civic teams during the operations to ensure smooth execution and maintain law and order.
• The latest drive is part of IMC's wider campaign against illegal constructions, encroachments, and structurally weak buildings across Indore to improve public safety and protect civic infrastructure.

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has intensified its action against illegal encroachments and unsafe structures by carrying out demolition drives at two locations across the city. The civic body's latest operations focused on reclaiming public land and removing buildings that posed a safety risk, particularly during the ongoing monsoon season. The move is part of IMC's continued efforts to protect civic infrastructure, improve public safety, and prevent unauthorized occupation of government land.
One of the enforcement drives was conducted in Chhota Bangarda under IMC Zone 16, where civic officials removed illegal encroachments from land reserved for a municipal garden. The action was taken after local residents raised complaints about unauthorized occupation of the public space. Municipal teams, accompanied by police personnel, cleared the encroachments and reclaimed the land for its intended public use. Officials said such action is necessary to safeguard government-owned land and ensure public amenities remain accessible to residents.
In a separate operation, the civic body partially demolished a dilapidated residential building in Chhoti Gwaltoli after finding it structurally unsafe. During the demolition, two rooms and an overhanging balcony on the upper floor were removed to eliminate the immediate risk of collapse. As a precaution, shops operating on the ground floor of the building were temporarily closed while the demolition work was underway to avoid any danger to shopkeepers, workers, and pedestrians.
Officials stated that the building had become unsafe and posed a greater threat due to the ongoing monsoon, when weakened structures are more vulnerable to collapse. The civic body has been identifying such buildings across the city and taking preventive action before accidents occur. Similar inspections are expected to continue in other areas where old and damaged buildings have been flagged as safety concerns.
The latest operations form part of IMC's broader enforcement campaign against illegal encroachments and unauthorized constructions. In recent days, the municipal corporation has also removed illegal shops near a lake, initiated action against unauthorized colonies, investigated building permission irregularities, and stepped up monitoring of illegal developments across Indore. These drives are aimed at protecting public land, ensuring compliance with civic regulations, and improving urban planning across the city.
The municipal corporation has maintained that strict enforcement against encroachments and unsafe structures will continue in the coming months. Officials have urged residents to report illegal occupations and dangerous buildings so timely action can be taken. The administration believes that preventive measures, regular inspections, and public cooperation are essential to maintaining civic infrastructure and ensuring the safety of residents, especially during the monsoon season.
