Synopsis

• Heavy rainfall continued across Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for the second consecutive day, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to suburban train services.
• Several low-lying areas witnessed inundation, while road traffic slowed significantly due to flooding and poor visibility during peak hours.
• Three flights were temporarily diverted because of adverse weather before returning to Mumbai as conditions improved.
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds over Mumbai and its suburbs during the next 24 hours.

Heavy and persistent rainfall continued to batter Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for the second consecutive day, disrupting daily life across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Intense showers led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, slowing road traffic and affecting the operation of suburban train services during peak commuting hours.
According to official data, the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai received between 90 mm and 99 mm of rainfall over the period, resulting in flooding at multiple locations. Commuters faced delays as vehicles moved through waterlogged stretches, while local train services experienced disruptions due to the prevailing weather conditions.
Air travel was also briefly affected, with three incoming flights diverted because of the adverse weather. Airport officials later confirmed that all three flights returned to Mumbai after conditions improved, allowing normal flight operations to resume.
Civic agencies remained on alert and continued to monitor vulnerable locations, deploying personnel to clear waterlogged roads and ensure drainage systems functioned efficiently. Authorities advised residents to exercise caution while travelling and avoid unnecessary movement in flood-prone areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours, accompanied by gusty winds. With more spells of intense rain expected, authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant, follow official weather advisories and plan their travel accordingly.
