Synopsis

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), in coordination with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), demolished an unauthorised ground-plus-one (G+1) reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structure in Nerul as part of a joint anti-encroachment drive conducted earlier this week. The action was carried out on a notified CIDCO plot measuring approximately 600 sq m in Sector 6 after the occupants failed to comply with a statutory notice issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. The demolition was undertaken using heavy machinery under the supervision of senior civic officials. The civic body has stated that similar enforcement drives against unauthorised constructions will continue across Navi Mumbai.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), jointly with the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), carried out an anti-encroachment drive in Nerul earlier this week, demolishing an unauthorised ground-plus-one (G+1) reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structure constructed on a CIDCO-notified plot. The action formed part of the civic body's continuing enforcement against illegal developments undertaken without statutory approvals.
The demolition was conducted on June 25 at Sector 6, Nerul, on GES Plot Nos. 170 to 174 located in Survey No. 48 of Mouje Sarsole. According to the municipal corporation, the unauthorised RCC structure occupied an area of approximately 600 sq m and was removed using a poclain excavator.
NMMC stated that the structure had been erected without obtaining the mandatory approvals required under the corporation's prevailing development regulations and planning policies. As the construction was found to be in violation of applicable planning norms, a notice had been issued to the occupants on January 9 under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, directing them to remove the unauthorised development.
The civic body said the occupants failed to comply with the statutory notice and continued with the unauthorised construction, prompting the authorities to proceed with demolition in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
The joint enforcement operation was undertaken on the directions of NMMC Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and under the guidance of Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Amol Palwe. The drive was coordinated by the Assistant Commissioner of NMMC's B Ward, Nerul, along with officials and staff from the municipal encroachment department and CIDCO's Unauthorised Constructions (Navi Mumbai) Department.
For the demolition exercise, the authorities deployed 17 labourers, two poclain excavators and one JCB machine. Police personnel from the municipal encroachment department and security guards were also present to maintain law and order and facilitate the operation.
According to the municipal corporation, the coordinated action between NMMC and CIDCO was completed successfully without disruption. The authorities reiterated that the structure had been removed as it was constructed without the necessary planning permissions and in contravention of the applicable statutory framework governing development within Navi Mumbai.
The civic body stated that enforcement against unauthorised constructions will continue in the coming months and indicated that anti-encroachment drives would be intensified across Navi Mumbai to ensure compliance with planning regulations and prevent further illegal developments.
