The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has demolished an unauthorised structure in the Juhugaon area of Vashi as part of its ongoing drive against illegal constructions. The action was carried out earlier this week after the occupants failed to comply with a notice issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966. The demolition was undertaken under the supervision of senior civic officials with support from the encroachment department, police personnel, security staff and labourers using specialised equipment. The civic body has reiterated that enforcement against unauthorised developments will continue to be intensified across Navi Mumbai to ensure compliance with planning regulations.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out an anti-encroachment operation in the Vashi division earlier this week, demolishing an unauthorised structure in the Juhugaon area as part of its continuing enforcement against illegal constructions. The action was undertaken on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and under the supervision of senior officials from the civic body's encroachment control department.
According to the municipal corporation, the demolition was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Unauthorised Construction Control Department) Dr Amol Palwe. Officials from the encroachment department coordinated the operation within the Vashi ward jurisdiction.
The civic body stated that a statutory notice had been served under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, to the occupants of the unauthorised structure located at House No. 480, Juhugaon, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. The notice was issued to the property associated with the late Sadanand Mahadu Patil and Bala Sadanand Patil after the construction was found to be in violation of applicable planning regulations.
Following non-compliance with the statutory notice, the municipal corporation proceeded with demolition of the unauthorised construction on June 27 in accordance with the provisions of the MRTP Act. The civic body said the enforcement action was taken to remove the illegal structure and ensure adherence to approved development norms within its jurisdiction.
The demolition drive was executed with the assistance of officials and staff from the Vashi ward office, personnel from the municipal encroachment department, police officers, security guards and labourers. Heavy equipment, including one breaker and one gas cutter, was deployed during the operation to dismantle the unauthorised structure safely and efficiently.
NMMC stated that the operation was completed as part of its regular enforcement programme aimed at preventing illegal developments and ensuring that construction activities within Navi Mumbai comply with statutory planning provisions. The corporation reiterated that structures raised without the required permissions would continue to face action under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act.
The civic body further said that anti-encroachment drives will be intensified across Navi Mumbai in the coming months. It emphasised that strict enforcement measures will continue against unauthorised constructions to safeguard planned urban development and uphold the city's development control regulations.
