The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has carried out a demolition drive against unauthorised constructions in the Belapur division as part of its ongoing enforcement against illegal developments. The action was undertaken under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and supervised by Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner Dr Amol Palwe. The demolition targeted two unauthorised structures in Agroli and Karave villages after notices issued under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act failed to secure voluntary compliance. The operation involved officials from the Belapur ward office, civic staff, police personnel and heavy equipment to remove the illegal constructions.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has demolished unauthorised constructions in the Belapur division following enforcement action against structures that continued to be built despite statutory notices issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act. The demolition drive was conducted in the past week under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Unauthorised Construction Control Department) Dr Amol Palwe. The civic body's Encroachment Department, in coordination with the Belapur ward office, undertook the demolition as part of NMMC's ongoing action against illegal construction across the city.
According to the municipal corporation, notices under Section 54 of the MRTP Act had been served on Shankar Paushya Mali for an unauthorised structure at House No. 825, Agroli village, adjacent to the ITI in Sector 29, Belapur. Similar notices were also issued to Sampurna Siddharth Bhoir and other occupants for an unauthorised construction at House No. 0093/003, located behind the NMMC school in Sector 36, Karave village, Navi Mumbai.
Following the issuance of notices, the concerned parties were required to voluntarily remove the unauthorised constructions. However, as the structures continued to remain in place, the civic administration proceeded with demolition action through the Belapur (A Ward) office.
The demolition operation was organised on 25 June and was led by Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Prashant Nerkar. Assistant Engineer Atmaram Kale, along with other officers and staff from the Belapur division, also participated in the drive.
To carry out the demolition, the municipal corporation deployed 15 labourers, one gas cutter, five hammers and one excavator (JCB), along with other required equipment. Personnel from the local police department, officers from the civic body's encroachment department and security staff were also present to maintain law and order during the operation.
NMMC stated that it would continue to intensify enforcement against unauthorised constructions across its jurisdiction and undertake similar demolition drives wherever violations of planning regulations are identified.
