Air India Express is preparing to expand its international network by launching services to Georgia and exploring entry into Europe as part of its next growth phase. The Tata Group-owned airline is strengthening connectivity across West Asia, Southeast Asia and Central Asia while supporting expansion through fleet additions and network optimisation. The proposed routes form part of the carrier's strategy to widen its short- and medium-haul international footprint and complement the Air India Group's broader global network expansion.
Air India Express is planning to expand its international network by entering the European market and launching services to Georgia, as the Tata Group-owned carrier accelerates its overseas growth strategy. The airline disclosed its expansion plans in the past week, indicating that the proposed routes form part of a broader effort to strengthen its presence across key international markets while leveraging ongoing fleet additions and network optimisation.
The low-cost airline has steadily expanded its footprint since becoming the Air India Group's budget carrier following the integration of AirAsia India. In recent months, it has increased services across West Asia, Southeast Asia and Central Asia, with a focus on improving direct international connectivity from multiple Indian cities.
Georgia has emerged as one of the destinations under evaluation for the airline's next phase of expansion. The country has witnessed rising tourism and aviation activity and is positioning itself as a gateway between Europe and Asia, making it an attractive market for airlines seeking to strengthen regional connectivity.
Alongside Georgia, Air India Express is assessing opportunities to establish a presence in Europe, where the Air India Group has been expanding its network through fleet modernisation and strategic partnerships. The airline's plans are expected to complement the group's broader international strategy by serving short- and medium-haul routes that can feed traffic into Air India's long-haul operations.
The expansion will be supported by continued induction of new aircraft and optimisation of existing routes. Air India Express has been rapidly increasing its fleet while rationalising its network to improve aircraft utilisation and strengthen connectivity from major metros as well as Tier II and Tier III cities.
The airline has also been widening its international footprint by introducing new destinations and increasing frequencies on high-demand routes. Its strategy focuses on providing affordable overseas connectivity while supporting the Air India Group's objective of building a comprehensive domestic and international aviation network.
The proposed expansion comes as Indian carriers continue to increase their overseas presence amid rising outbound travel demand. While Air India focuses on long-haul international markets, Air India Express is expected to strengthen regional connectivity across nearby international destinations, supporting the group's hub-and-spoke model.
The airline has not announced timelines for launching services to Georgia or commencing European operations. Route approvals, bilateral air service agreements and regulatory clearances will determine the rollout of the proposed destinations.
