Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Shri Fadnavis has described the upcoming Vadhavan Port as one of the country's most transformative infrastructure projects, stating that it will drive the economic growth of Maharashtra and India for the next three decades.
Speaking at an event related to the project, Shri Devendra Fadnavis said the deep-draft port is expected to become a major gateway for international trade, significantly enhancing India's maritime capabilities and strengthening its position in global shipping and logistics. He noted that the project would not only expand cargo-handling capacity but also improve the efficiency of India's port-led trade ecosystem.
The Vadhavan Port project is being developed as one of India's largest greenfield ports on the west coast. Its strategic location and planned deep-water infrastructure are expected to enable the handling of large container vessels, reducing dependence on foreign transshipment hubs and improving the country's export-import logistics.
According to officials, the project is expected to catalyse large-scale industrial and economic development across the region. Improved port infrastructure is likely to attract investments in logistics parks, warehousing, manufacturing and allied industries, creating substantial employment opportunities and supporting regional development.

Shri Devendra Fadnavis emphasised that the state government is working closely with the Centre and implementing agencies to facilitate timely execution of the project. He said the port would play a crucial role in strengthening Maharashtra's position as a logistics and industrial hub while contributing to India's long-term economic aspirations.
The project also aligns with the government's broader vision of expanding modern port infrastructure, improving multimodal connectivity and enhancing the efficiency of the country's supply chain network. Once operational, Vadhavan Port is expected to significantly boost cargo throughput, support international trade and reinforce India's maritime competitiveness.
Officials believe the development of the port will have far-reaching economic benefits, making it a key infrastructure asset that will support industrial growth, trade expansion and employment generation for decades to come.
