Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 5 June 2026 inaugurated, dedicated, and laid the foundation stones for projects worth approximately INR 22,655 crore across Gujarat, Daman, and Lakshadweep, spanning roads, power, healthcare, civil aviation, tourism, and maritime connectivity. In Surat, INR 18,800 crore of projects were unveiled, including Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway packages and a 220-bed ESIC hospital. In Daman, INR 2,970 crore of projects were initiated, anchored by the NAMO Airport terminal, NAMO Hospital, Iconic Bridge, and a NIFT campus. Foundation stones for INR 885 crore of port infrastructure were laid for Lakshadweep.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Surat and Daman on 5 June 2026 to inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stones of development projects totalling approximately INR 22,655 crore across Gujarat, the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. The visit commenced with a review of ongoing industrial operations at Hazira in Surat district, followed by a public function at which projects worth over INR 18,800 crore were unveiled.
The centrepiece of the Surat programme was the dedication of Packages VI and VII of the 8-lane access-controlled Vadodara–Mumbai Expressway to the nation, strengthening high-speed transportation and logistics efficiency between Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the four-laning of critical sections of NH-56 to improve connectivity across tribal regions and enhance access to the Statue of Unity.
In healthcare, a 220-bed ESIC hospital was inaugurated in Surat, equipped with secondary care facilities, a central laboratory, ancillary services, and round-the-clock emergency and trauma care. On the power and industrial front, the Transmission Network Expansion under the Inter-State Transmission System was inaugurated to strengthen power evacuation capacity. Additional projects included power distribution upgrades in Valsad under the Revamped Reforms-Based Distribution Sector Scheme, effluent disposal and treatment infrastructure at the Dahej Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region and the Sarigam Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, and layout utilities at the Jambusar Bulk Drug Park.
In Daman, projects worth approximately INR 2,970 crore were inaugurated and initiated. Projects valued at INR 1,340 crore were dedicated to the nation, led by the new terminal building of NAMO Airport, which is expected to expand regional air connectivity, and NAMO Hospital, a district facility built to handle approximately 1,500 outpatient visits daily. Foundation stones worth INR 1,630 crore were laid for the Iconic Bridge, the Daman Convention Centre, and a National Institute of Fashion Technology campus projects aimed at boosting tourism, investment, and employment in the Union Territory.
The Prime Minister concluded the programme by laying foundation stones for four port projects worth INR 885 crore in Lakshadweep, covering multipurpose jetties on the eastern and western sides of Kalpeni and Kadmat islands. The facilities are designed to accommodate vessels of up to 300 metres and will include integrated infrastructure for fish handling, fuel distribution, ice supply, and boat repair, supporting both local fishing communities and the islands' tourism potential.
