The Uttar Pradesh government has approved urban development projects worth around INR 3,500 crore for Agra, Bareilly and Prayagraj as part of its broader strategy to expand planned urbanisation and create new growth centres across the state. The investment will support township development, housing, infrastructure creation and urban expansion in three key cities. The move aligns with the state's New City Promotion Scheme and wider urban development agenda, which focuses on reducing pressure on existing urban centres while improving infrastructure and housing availability. The projects are expected to strengthen real estate activity, improve civic infrastructure and create new opportunities for residential and commercial development in the three cities.
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved urban development projects worth approximately INR 3,500 crore in Agra, Bareilly and Prayagraj, advancing its plans to create new urban centres and support organised city expansion across the state. The approvals form part of the government's wider urban planning strategy aimed at strengthening infrastructure, housing supply and economic activity in emerging growth corridors.
The investment will be channelled towards the development of new urban sectors, township projects and supporting infrastructure in the three cities. The initiative is aligned with the state's Mukhyamantri Urban Expansion and New City Promotion Scheme, under which multiple urban development projects are being planned across Uttar Pradesh to accommodate future population growth and economic activity.
Agra, one of the key beneficiaries of the latest approvals, has already been identified as a major focus area for planned urban development. Earlier this year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced plans for the proposed Greater Agra township, which is expected to emerge as a major urban and economic hub. The project is being developed through the Agra Development Authority and is intended to support housing creation, infrastructure development and commercial activity across a large land parcel.
Prayagraj has also witnessed significant infrastructure investment in recent months, including the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway, which has strengthened connectivity between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Improved transportation infrastructure is expected to support future residential and commercial development in the city while enhancing its attractiveness for investors and developers.
Bareilly continues to feature prominently in the state's urban expansion plans. The city was among the locations identified under the government's township development initiatives and has received support for planned urban growth aimed at improving housing availability and civic infrastructure.
The latest approvals come against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh's increasing emphasis on urbanisation. In its 2026-27 budget, the state allocated substantial resources towards urban development, housing, smart city initiatives and municipal infrastructure, with the objective of supporting long-term economic growth and planned urban expansion.
Industry observers believe the investment could provide a significant boost to real estate activity in the three cities by facilitating land development, improving connectivity and encouraging private sector participation in residential and commercial projects. The creation of new urban infrastructure is also expected to enhance the attractiveness of these markets for both end-users and investors.
With Uttar Pradesh continuing to pursue large-scale urban development initiatives across multiple districts, the latest approvals reinforce the state's focus on creating new growth centres capable of supporting future population growth, economic expansion and housing demand.
