Thomas Cook (India) Limited has introduced a cross-border rewards programme for its forex card customers, offering rewards on international spending across selected global retail and service brands. The initiative provides 10 per cent rewards-back on eligible overseas transactions conducted through point-of-sale terminals, contactless payments and e-commerce channels. Available across the company's Visa and Mastercard forex cards, the programme covers merchants including Grab, Starbucks, McDonald's, KFC, Careem, Burger King and 7-Eleven. The launch comes amid rising adoption of digital payment methods by Indian travellers and is aimed at encouraging greater use of prepaid forex cards for everyday international spending while reducing reliance on cash withdrawals during overseas travel.
Thomas Cook (India) Limited has launched a cross-border rewards programme for customers using its forex cards, introducing incentives for international spending across a range of global retail, dining and mobility brands. Announced on June 18, the initiative is designed to encourage greater adoption of digital payment methods among Indian travellers while expanding the value proposition of prepaid forex cards.
The programme offers customers 10 per cent rewards-back on eligible transactions made through point-of-sale terminals, contactless payment modes and e-commerce platforms at participating international merchants. The rewards scheme applies to spending across brands including Grab, 7-Eleven, Starbucks, McDonald's, KFC, Careem and Burger King.
Under the programme structure, customers are required to spend a minimum of USD 25 per merchant to qualify for rewards. Eligible users can receive cashback of up to USD 10 per day across participating merchants. The rewards will be issued in the form of Amazon vouchers, subject to qualifying transaction thresholds and applicable programme terms.
The company said the initiative addresses a gap in the international payments market, where reward programmes are widely available for domestic transactions but remain relatively limited for prepaid forex card usage overseas. The launch comes as Indian travellers increasingly adopt digital and contactless payment methods for daily purchases, transportation, dining, entertainment and shopping during international trips.
Thomas Cook expects the programme to support increased use of prepaid forex cards for routine overseas spending while encouraging travellers to rely less on cash withdrawals. The company also anticipates that the rewards structure will contribute to higher customer engagement and repeat usage across travel, lifestyle and retail categories.
The rewards programme is available across all Thomas Cook India Visa and Mastercard forex cards. The offering complements existing card features such as multi-currency functionality, international acceptance and compatibility with digital payment platforms, including Google Pay.
Deepesh Varma, Chief Business Officer – Foreign Exchange at Thomas Cook (India) Limited, stated that international travellers increasingly expect payment solutions to offer convenience and benefits comparable to other aspects of their travel experience. He noted that while prepaid forex cards already provide a secure and cost-effective method for managing overseas expenditure, there remains significant potential to increase their use for everyday international transactions.
He further stated that the programme has been developed to encourage customers to use the company's Borderless Travel Card across transport, dining, retail and lifestyle purchases while receiving tangible benefits in return. According to the company, the initiative also aligns with its broader strategy of accelerating the transition from cash withdrawals to secure, contactless and digital-first payment methods for international travel.
The launch follows Thomas Cook India's recent expansion of its Borderless Travel Card platform to support 28 currencies, further strengthening its foreign exchange and travel payments portfolio for Indian outbound travellers.
