Synopsis

The Union Cabinet has approved office and residential infrastructure projects worth INR 2,533 crore for Central government employees in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. The approved package includes integrated office complexes and housing facilities for various Central government departments planned in the capital city. The decision aims to provide permanent administrative infrastructure and residential accommodation for government staff while supporting the ongoing development of Amaravati as Andhra Pradesh’s planned capital and strengthening the city’s institutional and urban framework.

The Union Cabinet has approved projects worth approximately INR 2,533 crore for the construction of office complexes and residential accommodation for Central government employees in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing the Centre’s commitment to developing the state's planned capital city with integrated administrative infrastructure.
The approval covers the development of office buildings for various Central government departments along with residential quarters for their employees. The projects are intended to provide permanent infrastructure for Central institutions expected to operate from Amaravati while supporting the city's planned administrative ecosystem.
According to the approved plan, the infrastructure will include modern office spaces and housing facilities designed to accommodate officials and staff serving in different Central government organisations. The initiative aims to ensure that administrative establishments are supported by adequate residential and civic infrastructure within the capital region.
The decision comes as construction activities in Amaravati are being revived following renewed emphasis on developing the city as the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The Centre has continued to extend financial and institutional support for infrastructure creation in the capital region, complementing projects being undertaken by the state government.
Officials stated that establishing dedicated office and housing facilities would improve operational efficiency by enabling government departments to function from permanent premises rather than temporary arrangements. The integrated development approach is also expected to facilitate better coordination among various Central agencies operating in the city.
The approved projects form part of the broader master plan for Amaravati, which envisages the creation of administrative, residential and institutional districts supported by transport and urban infrastructure. The development of government offices and employee housing is considered an essential component of building the capital's administrative framework.
The housing component is intended to provide accommodation for officers and employees serving in Central government establishments, reducing dependence on private housing and ensuring proximity to workplace locations. Such integrated planning is expected to support efficient urban management and orderly development of the capital city.
The Cabinet approval also aligns with ongoing investments in Amaravati’s public infrastructure, including roads, utilities and institutional facilities. The creation of permanent government infrastructure is expected to contribute to the gradual expansion of administrative activities and associated urban development within the capital region.
With the latest approval, the Centre has reaffirmed its support for Amaravati’s planned development by backing office and residential projects that will strengthen the city's role as an administrative hub while providing the necessary infrastructure for Central government personnel.
