The Noida Metro Rail Corporation will redraw the detailed project report for the Greater Noida West metro corridor, reducing Phase 1 to just four stations instead of the 11 originally proposed, local authorities said earlier this week. The decision follows recent approval of the Aqua Line extension from Botanical Garden to Sector 142 by the Union Cabinet, prompting a reassessment of priorities and connectivity strategies. Under the revised plan, the first phase will terminate at Greater Noida Sector 4 (Gaur Chowk) with intermediate stops including Sector 61 (interchange with Delhi Metro), Sector 70 and Sector 123, offering a more focused initial stretch for commuters. The remainder of the corridor may be developed later by NMRC or integrated into future rapid transit projects, and the fresh DPR will be submitted to government bodies for clearances. The adjustment underscores ongoing planning efforts to synchronise metro expansion with broader regional transport networks and commuter demand in Noida and Greater Noida.
The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has announced plans to revise the detailed project report for the proposed Greater Noida West metro corridor, scaling back Phase 1 to include only four stations, officials confirmed earlier this week. This marks a significant departure from the earlier alignment that envisioned up to 11 stations in the first phase.
The move comes days after the Union Cabinet approved the extension of the Aqua Line from Botanical Garden to Sector 142, prompting NMRC to re-evaluate its priorities and connectivity blueprint for the region. Under the revised proposal, the initial phase of the Greater Noida West corridor will feature four stations: Sector 61, which will provide an interchange with the Delhi Metro Blue Line, Sector 70, Sector 123 and Greater Noida Sector 4 (Gaur Chowk). These stops are expected to serve key residential and commercial clusters while laying the groundwork for future extension.
Officials indicated that the remaining stations originally planned for Phase 1 will not be constructed immediately. Instead, the stretch beyond Gaur Chowk may be taken up subsequently by NMRC or incorporated into broader rapid transit initiatives planned for the National Capital Region, potentially including interfaces with the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). A fresh detailed project report reflecting the amended scope is being prepared for submission to relevant authorities for approval.
The revised plan represents a pragmatic step by NMRC to align metro expansion timelines with broader infrastructure approvals and commuter needs, while ensuring that key interchanges and high-demand areas are prioritised in the initial delivery phase.
