The Union government is set to construct an underground railway corridor over a 40 kilometre stretch in Siliguri's Chicken's Neck, a critical land link connecting India's Northeast with the rest of the country. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the plan involves two underground lines in addition to expanding existing surface tracks from double to four lines, creating a six line network. The underground section, running between Tin Mile Haat and Rangapani, will also connect Bagdogra to support air defence logistics. Indian Railway Finance Corporation Ltd (IRFC), Sagarmala Finance Corporation Ltd (SMFCL) and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority have signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding to jointly fund the development of the Outer Harbour project at VOC Port, Tuticorin, with financing of up to INR 15,000 crore under the Sagarmala Programme and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The funding framework is expected to support breakwater construction, capital dredging, reclamation and other onshore offshore infrastructure on a Hybrid Annuity Model basis, strengthening port capacity for future container handling. The project aligns with broader strategic goals to expand India's port infrastructure, enhance maritime logistics, and support integrated trade corridors. Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) delivered a 140 foot double lane modular steel bridge for the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) in just seven days to reduce traffic congestion around Lake Town and VIP Road. This Class 70 bridge, with a 7.5 metre wide carriageway and 100 metric ton load capacity, is the first of its kind in Kolkata, surpassing previous Bailey bridges. GRSE's expertise in rapid fabrication and workflow management made this possible. The Defence PSU, with four shipyards, has built over 800 platforms including 115 warships for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.Read more

Central public sector undertakings under the power ministry have planned capital expenditure of over INR 1 trillion for FY27, marking a rise of nearly 19 per cent from the revised estimates of the current year. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has started the third phase of the Green Corridor, covering around 5 km between Pipraghat and Shaheed Path, aimed at easing traffic between the Cantonment area and main roads toward Ayodhya and Kanpur. The project includes a 240 metre railway overbridge, widening of Dilkusha Road, and a new four lane bridge to the G20 Road. HBL Engineering Limited has received an INR 575 crore order from the Integral Coach Factory for supplying and commissioning on-board equipment for the Kavach automatic train protection system, Version 4.0. The contract will be executed within India over a 12-month period. Kavach is an indigenous safety system aimed at preventing collisions and overspeeding on the rail network. The company clarified that the deal is not a related-party transaction. The order adds to HBL Engineering's existing railway safety portfolio.Read more

Plans to relocate the Kherki Daula toll plaza have stalled after residents of Pachgaon opposed the National Highways Authority of India's proposal, demanding a flyover at the junction before any shift. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is advancing the second phase of the four-lane Prayagraj Inner Ring Road, following approval of the preliminary Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Covering 41.662 km from Madhopur near NH19 in Soraon tehsil to Amiliya in Karchana tehsil, the project will pass through 41 villages. Key elements include a 3.5 km bridge over the Ganga, a 1.2 km bridge over the Yamuna, four flyovers, three railway overbridges, and 120 small culverts. Cochin Shipyard Limited has formalised contracts for two battery-electric green harbour tugs with Polestar Maritime after the tug operator secured a long-term charter from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority under the Green Tug Transition Programme. The vessels, which were earlier under construction without confirmed buyers, will now be built jointly by Cochin Shipyard and its subsidiary Udupi-CSL at Kochi.
