Kherki Daula toll relocation faces hurdle as Pachgaon villagers reject NHAI plan

Synopsis

Plans to relocate the Kherki Daula toll plaza have stalled after residents of Pachgaon opposed the National Highways Authority of India's proposal, demanding a flyover at the junction before any shift. The authority had suggested an elevated U-turn as part of the relocation plan, but villagers said it would not address safety and traffic concerns. Earlier attempts to move the toll to Kukrola near Sehrawan were also dropped due to security objections, leaving the long-pending relocation unresolved.

The proposed relocation of the Kherki Daula toll plaza has run into fresh resistance after villagers from Pachgaon rejected the latest plan put forward by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The authority had proposed developing an elevated U-turn at the Pachgaon junction as part of the relocation process, stating that it would help manage traffic flow and allow the toll plaza to be shifted from its current location. However, villagers refused to accept the proposal and reiterated their demand for a full-fledged flyover at the junction before any relocation is carried out.

Residents pointed out that the Pachgaon junction already handles heavy vehicular movement, including local traffic and long-distance highway users, and said an elevated U-turn would not be sufficient to ensure safe crossing. They maintained that a flyover is necessary to separate local movement from highway traffic and reduce accident risks. Meetings between NHAI officials, the district administration and villagers were held, but no consensus could be reached as local residents remained firm on their demand.

The relocation of the Kherki Daula toll plaza has been under discussion for several years due to congestion and traffic delays on the Delhi-Jaipur highway stretch. One earlier proposal to shift the toll plaza to Kukrola village near Sehrawan, around 13 km from the existing site, was dropped after security agencies raised objections because of the presence of sensitive installations in the area. Before that, the Pachgaon site itself had faced opposition, with villagers seeking assurances on supporting infrastructure.

Villagers clarified that they are not opposed to the toll plaza in principle but want road infrastructure to be upgraded first. They stressed that without a flyover or proper grade separation, the relocation would worsen traffic conditions for local commuters travelling towards Rohtak, Tauru, Jamalpur and Nuh. NHAI officials have indicated that discussions are continuing, but the lack of agreement has delayed progress on the relocation.
