Synopsis

HBL Engineering Limited has received an INR 575 crore order from the Integral Coach Factory for supplying and commissioning on-board equipment for the Kavach automatic train protection system, Version 4.0. The contract will be executed within India over a 12-month period. Kavach is an indigenous safety system aimed at preventing collisions and overspeeding on the rail network. The company clarified that the deal is not a related-party transaction. The order adds to HBL Engineering's existing railway safety portfolio.

HBL Engineering Limited has secured an order worth INR 575 crore from the Integral Coach Factory, a production unit of Indian Railways, for the supply, testing and commissioning of on-board equipment for the Kavach automatic train protection system, Version 4.0. The work will be carried out entirely within India and is scheduled to be completed over a 12-month execution period.

The contract involves deployment of Kavach equipment on railway rolling stock manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory. Kavach is an indigenously developed safety system designed to prevent train collisions and overspeeding by automatically applying brakes in critical situations. The system is being rolled out in phases across key rail routes as part of Indian Railways broader safety upgrade programme.

In its regulatory filing, HBL Engineering confirmed that neither its promoters nor promoter group entities have any interest in the awarding authority. The company also stated that the transaction does not fall under related-party dealings, ensuring compliance with disclosure and governance norms.

The order strengthens HBL Engineering's position in the railway safety and signalling segment, where it has been an active supplier for several years. The company has previously executed similar safety-related contracts for Indian Railways, including engagements with production units such as Chittaranjan Locomotive Works. These repeat orders reflect continued reliance on domestic suppliers for critical rail safety systems.

HBL Engineering, formerly known as HBL Power Systems, operates across batteries, electronics, and defence and railway applications. Its growing involvement in Kavach-related projects aligns with Indian Railways focus on deploying indigenous technologies to enhance operational safety and reduce dependence on imported systems.
